Not sure about the tent price increase, but can believe it as more and more people are choosing to holiday at home, due to price of Euro etc.

Winfields have them in stock for £229.00 http://www.winfieldsmegastore.com/index.asp?spc=290252

It may be because of the price of oil, along with the demand. I've just discovered that there is a new camping shop opening in our little town centre next week so things are looking up..!

Not surprised.  I know quite a few people (me inc) who have this year discovered camping. When the demand is there prices will rise.  Glad I bought all I need this year.  No doubt site prices will increase next season but will still be cheaper than alternatives.

We've not bought a new tent for the past 3 years, only becasue we haven't seen one better that suited to our needs yet.

It will be interesting to see how many people are still camping next year, after this years terrible weather. I know we will..!

Price of oil will put up the price of plastic that tents are made of, and the cost of shipping them from China. Got to go up really.

Yep, I'd heard that too - tents and equipment set to rise next year - that's why I've bought loads in the sales (my excuse anyway & I'm sticking to it  )

We were also told this by Yeomans, at the Lincoln Tent Show and they were hinting at it as a result of global oil and fuel increases impacting on import/export prices. We inquired about a Wolf Lake 7 and Yeomans think that this will be around the £1000 mark next year! This is a huge increase.

We have read and heard about the price increases from a number of sources - some saying as much as 30%.

You can see where it is coming from being the oil increases (for the artificial fabrics and chemical waterproofers along with transport), the increase in popularirty and also in some cases China is increaseing the export tarrif on goods from their shores.

This was one reason why we have bought our Vermont L recently, to take advantage of end of season sale prices and also because we couldn't wait (the inner child comiung out).

However it could all be a clever marketing ploy.

Yep, I was in my local camping store today buying a footprint for my tent and was told 2009 prices were up about 30%.
