We have recently bought a Vango Yukon 600. Are pitches a standard size or do they vary from site to site?

Thanks

Went to a site earlier this year and booked at the last minute so we were restricted in terms of pitch size as it was the last one. Our old tent wasn't too big so no problems, but other areas of the site were able to accommodate much larger tents than ours. We didn't check officially but it seemed that different areas of the site were designated for different sized tents and also for larger groups to camp together in close proximity. Looks like we'll have to book in advance at that particular site now we've got our Vermont XL

C&C Club pitches are 9m long x 5m wide,if your unit is more than 5m wide you can't book online, you have to phone the club site direct to make sure they can fit you in.I think all other sites have different rules so phone up before you book just to make sure.

Outwell Vermont XL will fit a C&C club site pich.

I can't believe that the C&C Club pitches are only 5m wide!! I've seen lots of threads before regarding the C&C Club pitches........surely there can't be many tents that would easily fit in a pitch that wide.........i presume the guy lines have to fit within this 5m aswell?

I think the reason they arrived at that size is it can take most caravans (with awnings) and motorhomes.Somewhere along the way the club seem to have forgot that tent makers are making bigger( different shape) tents and we the camping public are buying them. This as you say is a subject that has been covered many times,so I will say no more.

There is no such thing as a standard pitch size, a usual size is 10 metres x 10 metres BUT the requirement to leave a fire break of 3m on each side of a tent on a pitch that abuts another means that this will take a tent size down to a width of around 5 metres.   For the C&CC this effectively means a tent of around 9m x 5m EXCLUDING guy ropes.

Tunnel/frame tents with a rectangular footprint are therefore good...podded tents like the Vango Diablo, Outwell Hartford are bad....

Not all sites follow the "fire break" regulations but I'm not sure I'd like to go to those sites...lots of sites don't have set pitches in which case they will be more flexible.

Piglets right, sorry about the confusion 9m x 5m is the unit size not the pitch size.

No, they're not. They're 11m wide. But the C&CC is very strict about the 6m rule ie 6m between units. So you have to have a 3m margin each side of your tent, though of course you can park your car in the gap. (No pup or auxiliary tents though, and an awning is part of your tent for this purpose.) But this does only apply to the footprint of your tent....you are allowed to peg your guylines into the gap area.

There is a vast array of pitch sizes out there. All you can do is contact a site in advance and tell them your tent size. They can then advise you if they have a pitch suitable for your tent.
