Hi all, just bought an Ouywell Sunnvalley6 complete with kids room, side extention and carpet for £350 delivered was it a good deal and do any owners have advice on putting up for the first time? It is replacing our leaking Vango Vail 700 used for 2 weeks in france last year plus 3 short UK breaks. Roll on the warmer weather

Hi,

We have a Sun Valley 6 and bought it last year with the carpet & kids room.  That's a good deal you found there, think I saw it or something similiar!

Now ... the first time we tried putting it up, we nearly came to blows. We are experienced campers and tried putting it up as we would have a smaller tunnel tent. Wrong!  The air vacumm created by trying to lift the tent nearly snapped the poles.  Outwell do not do (in my personal opinion) the best video instructions for putting their tents up, but in this case we worked out what they meant and followed them - checkout their website for the pitching instructions.

Lay the tent out flat.  Insert the pole into the rear pole sleeve. Bend the pole to fit both ends into the ring & pin and then raise the pole to form the arc and peg it down (pegs can be moved later for adjustment). We found we then needed a child to hold the guy-rope for this hoop to stop it falling down again. We then put each pole into each sleeve and raised them one by one.  We 'walked' the hoops into place to ensure the tent is taut and quickly pegged the guy-ropes to keep it in place whilst making the adjustments.

The side bars seem to be too long, but that's ok. They are what gives the tunnel its stability and we experienced our tent being completely blown sideways last August in Wales and it then sprang straight back up again.

Good choice of tent!

We had a sunvalley 6 and I thought I would give you my (differing) opinion on how to pitch it. It works particularly well in windy weather since it isn't erected till all the poles are in place and no need for a small child to hold guys.
Lay tent flat on ground, open the doors and mosquito nets, and insert all the poles and attach to the ring and pin joints on all the sleeves whilst the poles are still lying flat on the ground. Then place all the poles together on top of each other and with one person on each side of the bunch of poles, lift the whole tent upright. Then one person just pegs out the very front guy rope so now the tent can't fall backwards, then one person on either side, 'walk' the tent backwards. Peg the back and the tent is now standing. Now close doors and all other guys and side poles can be inserted. Job done.

See now we did it differently again.

We put the footprint down then layed the tent out flat and pegged down the bedroom corners.
Opened up all the doors and fly screens.
Then we threaded all the poles throught the sleeves.
Then raised the back (bedroom) pole into ring and pin first then the middle pole and then the others.

Pegged out and then pegged out guy ropes then went round telling OH to move the guys till I thought they looked right lol

REMEMBER close all teh doors again befor you peg out or you will have to un peg and do it cos the door won't fasten

We paid £200 for ours but it was from the local camping shop and had been up on inside display for about 5 weeks and was as good as new. That was tent only - bought the footprint (£25) and then a Monty 12 carpet off eBay that fits perfectly (roughly £20) as the Sun Valley carpets were at least twice the price.

We found it really easy to pitsh and really easy to decamp too. Loads of room for a family of 4. Brilliant tent.

We went in it for October half term and although there was no 'bad' weather it was cold and we had no problems.

Thats a good deal.We bought ours in Sept 2007 for £249.99 inc footprint and carpet.

They are very easy to put up.We spread the canvas out,put the rear set of poles in and then stand them up and put a couple of guys on the back. Then work your way to the front with the others.20 minutes tops.

Thanks for all the options! We will need to book more trips this year to try them out and find which works best for us.
