We have nearly decided to buy an Outwell Vermont L (770 x 415), but we are a bit concerned about whether the tent will be too long to pitch on some campsites. We generally holiday in France, but would gratefully accept any advice or details of any problems that other people have had with this tent in this country or in France.
In hope,
Jason

Don't forget to leave a review of all tents you've used, for a chance to win fantastic prizes
Hi jj I have a sunncamp eden which is 4mx 7.50m just a little shorter than the vermont L, and have had no problems but not been to france so can't comment about that.
generally speaking its not the tunnel style tents that have pitch size problems but the ones with pods sticking out making them take up 7m x 7m .
I've camped in the UK and France with my old Khyam Frontier (sadly now retired after last year's storm in the Loire when a tree fell on it!) - 7m x 5m and never had any trouble at campsites.
I'm thinking of replacing the Khyam with a 2009 Outwell Michigan XL - roughly 6m x 6m, but appears to be plenty big enough for a family of 6 and has a porch.
We've used our Vermont XL on French campsites quite comfortably, and added the side extension. We've found that the French pitches are generally larger than those at home.
We've now bought a caravan and our Vermont, together with a few extras will be up for sale this season if you're interested.
I might be interested in buying a second hand Vermont. We're looking to upgrade our Vario 5, and I do like the look of the Vermont but don't feel we can stretch to a new one. How much would you be asking?
Hi Jason,Can't speak for french campsites but you should be ok in th uk.
C&C club maximum unit size is 9m x 5m excluding guy ropes.
That is a great tent, its just a bit big for us or I would have tomorrow.

Agree with other posters that French campsites have larger pitches on average(except in the Vendee where it gets very busy).
But they're also laid back about what goes on. Once you've paid for your pitch no-one I know has ever had a problem with putting up pup tents, awnings or gazebos.
In this country the problem is tents over 5m wide rather than long tents. This is why I bought a Vermont rather than a Monty. It's huge space-hungry pod designs rather than tunnel tents (nice rectangular shape) that are the bugbear of campsites.
My advice - go for it. Vermonts are exceptional tents.
Too late for the Vermont L on ebay at £339, he sold 4 at that price and has now relisted at £449. Maybe it was a mistake. 4 lucky people got a bargain though, I paid £329 plus shipping for my "M" last year.
