Just a quick question, when you come to pitch your tent (that has been put away since the last time you used it) does it smell funny? Just packed my tent away properly but its got a funny smell. Does anyone have an tricks to keep the tent smelling nice? I thought of using fabreeze but not sure just in case it attacks the material.
Thanks
John

Not had a problem with tent smelling on erection but...
On our first camping trip I took an air freshener and used that to cover smells in the tent.
Took it away on our last trip too.
Have been using it at home since and every time i do it reminds me of being in my tent.
A particular shower gel reminds me of when I first stayed in hospital when pregnant with my twins and a certain brand and flavour of washing up liquid reminds me of our first family holiday in a static.
All useless info to you but just got me thinking of smells.
Maybe a couple of sachets of smelly stuff or some tumble dryer sheets in the bag when you pack it up might help next time

I noticed you typed "flavour" of washing up liquid surfspud, i presume you meant scent, can't say i'd reckon washing up liquid would taste that nice!!!??? lol
I'd be more worried about why the tent smells funny than trying to disguise it.
What sort of smell does the tent have? If its a musty damp sort of smell it could be from mud on the groundsheet.
We were unfortunate to have groundheets smelling like horse manure one time, after a particularly soggy pitch, maybe it was from fertiliser ? But gave them a good scrub at home .
My sister had left a jam doughnut inside an inner tent once (Gawd knows how she missed it) It was gruesome after months packed away, but I washed the inner tent in the machine and it was fine afterwards.

Haha, I always say lemon flavour fairy up liquid . The kids always called it fairy up liquid and it just stuck.
Its good for washing smelly groundsheets though.

I always describe things like that as having a 'flavour' rather than a 'fragrance' - my mum used to say it so I think I got it from her.

Yeah, same here. But agree fragrance or scent is probably a better word. I knew it wasn't right when I typed it but it was past my bedtime and I couldn't think.

I bought a tent from ebay which we havent used yet and it really smells quite nasty. I've inspected it and theres no mould or stains but it does have a kind of manure smell to it. It has a sig but perhaps giving the groundsheet a wash will help. I expect theres a thread on here about the best way to do it. Maybe when the weather is better I can get it up in the garden to air it.
