HI Sprinkles,
We have camped in France with our sun valley 8 and never had a problem with pitch size. Make sure that you state the size of your tent when booking and then when you arrive on site, if you feel the pitch is not right, just say. They take camping very seriously in France and the pitches are, mainly, much bigger over there. We have never felt cramped.
In fact the only problems we have ever experienced with our tent and pitch size has been in this contry on a few "commercially orientaed" sites!
