Me and my lovely lady enjoy camping, but we usually just borrow my parents tent, but we have decided that we would like to go and buy our own. The problem is looking around i have no idea what a good tent is to buy!
We want a tent with enough space for the 2 of us and (if possible) a nice porce area.
Very almost purchaced a Rage Bodo 2 tent, but thankfully i stumbled across this site which has made me think twice about that
Does anyone have any suggestions on a good tent to buy?
Thank you!
jim

Goodness - there are LOADS of good tents out there (and loads of not so good ones too!!).
You will need to eliminate some by formulating a checklist of things you want/don't want. I'd suggest starting with -
groundsheet sewn in or not
material - polyester, polycotton, cotton canvas
standing height?
one bedroom or more
size of living area needed
porch/canopy
budget (all important!!)
style - tunnel, dome, frame
Just a few starting points.
Try searching on here (or ask questions) about any of the above if you're not sure. I have cotton canvas and polyester tents - I've been very happy with Cabanon and outwell.
Look on thew Outwell site (also Vango, Khyam, Wynnster) and I'm sure others will be along soon to recommend their favourites.
If you want space for 2 of you I'd go for at least a 4 man tent.
------------- Anne - mad mum to one - foster mum to many - adoptatent to you guys!
to be honest, the only thing i need with the tent is it to be quick and easy to set up as we like to try and move around alot when we are out and about camping.
I had been lookinh at the Wynnster Bittern 3 but I dont really know if its a decent tent or not.
I didn't think picking a tent would be this hard! But then you realise you cant really go and buy any old sh*t as you might have to sleep in it when there is weather!
Judging by the size of the Bittern then I guess you simply want something that you can sit up not stand up in.
One thing you should consider is this: the Bittern is a simple tunnel/hoop tent, easy to pitch but not necessarily very stable in strong winds. Therefore consider a geodesic or semi-geodesic tent, where the fibreglass poles cross each other at several points thus lending the tent much greater stability in the wind.
If you look up the Vango Hurricane 200 in the review section of this site you will get an idea of what I'm on about, but there are many others.

Is there a large camping store near you with tents on display?
Its always a good idea to have a look before you buy (if possible) then there are no nasty surprises such as ... oh wow this is MUCH smaller than it looked on the pictures.
Plus checking out tents is always fun :)
Good luck with your tent hunt

Depends what you want I suppose. Hubby and I only started camping last year and bought a Vango Venture 500 really cheap. It's fab for me with loads of space but I'm only 5'2" though and hubby is 6ft!! We decided to sell the Vango and have now bought an Outwell Vermont M. Fantastic size for 2 of us with loads of living space and porch area, but not so easy to just throw up for a quick night out somewhere. If you're looking for something to sit up in, I think the Venture is great - currently £80ish on the go-outdoors website I believe.
Hello! Thank you for your advice everyone~! I have been looking at the Vango Beta 350 as its seems to be the type of thing i am looking for. Does anyone know if this is anygood? or know of any slightly better simular tents?
We have the Vango Beta and it is an excellent little tent. We backpacked around the IOW last year (we split the tent between us) so were moving campsites everyday it is nice and quick to put up, spacious to sleep in and has plenty of room for baggage. You can also get little low chairs if you want to sit inside.
