Hello All,

We're looking to head off to France this summer and have decided for once and all to ditch the Lichfield Arapaho that has served us well for 5 years. Have been looking for a Cedar Creek but looks like it is discontinued as an older style and replaced with the Sector X5. Looks good. Quite like the idea of the cool flow design. I notice several threads from last year looking for reviews but none available as the tent was so new. Has anybody now bought one and if so have you got any advice on it? It's a little pricier than the cedar creek it replaces but looks to be pretty well thought out.

Hi dmmeys, I have a Cedar Creek and I would replace it in an instant if anything happened to it. My best friend up in Liverpool had one delivered this weekend as she loved my one, she paid £149 from a company I can email her and ask her which company if you are interested? Can't comment on the sector X5 but the Cedar Creek is a wonderful tent and i had researched well on the internet and picked this. I then waited and waited and suddenly it came up for £90 from Field and Trek (about a year ago.)

I seem to remember these being discussed here last year with favourable comments. One on ebay at the moment.

Yes that's right there are plenty of discussions. The thing about the Cedar Creek is that it is really big and the poles are heavy as they are steel, but we keep the poles separate from the main tent, plus we keep the bedrooms clipped in to save time. I have also just bought the canopy from Argos (fair weather only but apparently it is fine if pegged as it gives a huge extra area) and this matches the tent exactly and is only £30. My friend has also gone out and bought this so when we go camping, you will know who we are as we have twin tents and canopies!!

Thanks Liverbird08,

Having started looking again at the cedar creek I just happened across the x5 on the coleman website and it looked like it was the replacement for the cedar which has been discontinued. Does the cedar creek it have the coolflow thingy? Seems like a good idea and with camping in the SoF being a sticky affair in July the thought of being able to put a fan into it to force some air through seemed like a good idea. May just be a useless gimmick. With the cedar creek being a few years old now it may not have that facility.

I must admit that I do like the look of the porch extension to the cedar creek and it would give a lot of additional useable outdoor space.

I have looked at all of the websites and the majority no longer have them in stock. The cheapest I've been able to find it is £199 from a website I can't find now! The sector x5, which I assume is the slightly heavier replacement, is only £199 on Wildday. Would seem like a no brainer if they're pretty much the same price to go for the newer version.

Unfortunately all of the great deals referred to seem to have dried up (probably as it's discontinued and sold out for the most part).

If you could let me know where your friend got it from that would be great. Could you also let me know about the general spec. I'm assuming it has all of the access arrangements to get power and stuff in and clips/ pockets etc but knowing about the cool flow would be a help

Thanks Beefysmum,

I had done a search for the Cedar Creek and the posts seemed to dry up last summer.. no surprise. Was just looking to see if anybody had any hands on experience of the X5 as there aren't many posts with it being new.

I've seen the cedar creek on ebay and I'm watching it as we speak!!!

I like the look of it and with only two of us it may be the better option as it's a little lighter and Liverbirds advice to get the sun porch seems like a good option.

Just have to hope I'm not priced out of the auction. If it goes up too high then it is a choice between a new cedar creek at £149 or a new X5 at £199 (if that isn't just ruse to get you to order one before they tell you they're actually out of stock!)

Hi dmmeys - emailed my pal and will await her response as she only bought the Cedar Creek this week. Don't recall the 'coolflow' option, but I will say that it has three access points and we have now camped in winter and summer and no problems with heat or cold. We had all three sides open yesterday to let some air in as there was some minor condensation on one side of the top of the tent, 20 mins later it had dried out and fine to be packed away. It has no-see-um mesh on each side so you can basically air it without any other means. The stand up space is the bonus in the tent, but there is no cable access that I can recall (but we don't do electric when we are away anyway) It has some small pockets in each bedroom and it does lack a hanging point in the bedrooms but these are minor issues for me. It has a SIG and I have actually put a picture of it on the tent review if you look, plus some more coming from when we were camping at the weekend.

Thanks Liverbird. Does anybody else have any experience of the Sector X5 then? Their both pretty similar in size but the Sector X5's a good 10kg heavier...

Thanks Liverbird. Have checked out their website the tent isn't shown. Still shows up on a bizrate search though. Will call them tomorrow to check whether they still have any and what the damage will be with delivery.

Hi, hope you get some answers.  I am looking for a spacious but not toooo big tent for me and 3 kids (16, 14 & 8).  Like the look of this one, but concerned that looks complicated to erect.  Also like Khyam Overlander - much easier to put up, but no SIG.  Used to be campers with Khyam Rigidome, but have had caravan for last 5 years.  No longer want to tow, so back to camping but so hard to choose right tent.  Please guys, share some advice and tips!  p.s also tempted by Vango Breckenridge 400 or Vail 500.
