I need a new tent, and need a bit of advice. I have always had outwell tents and love the quality. I bought the Utah 6 last year but did not get on with it, it took me ages to put up and I could not get it back in the bag for love nor money. Also we often just camp for the weekend and pack up early on Sunday but with all the windows and all the condensation i spent hours drying the windows out before I could pack up.
I am lookign at the Sun Valley tents, or maybe the arkansas ones. But am quite swayed by the Sunncamp ones too, like the Vario and the Invader. But am worried about the quality. They are not much cheaper than the Outwell ones and there seem to be issues with dampness, rusting poles, poles snapping in the wind. Am I right to stick with Outwell? We are going to Scotland for 2 weeks this summer so need a tent that can handle wind and rain. There are 5 of us although often there's only 3 of us camping. And the older kids are happy to go in their own tent. Still want a tent with decent living area. Cheers!

Hi.I can only give you advice on what we've found but we have an Outwell monty 6 and love it. It withstood a force 4 gale in scotland 2 years ago, on a day we spent getting soaking wet trying to stop other tents taking off - the only damage being a bent pole which we found when we took the tent down 3 days later. My advice would be to stick with Outwell quality. Like you've found the windows take ages to dry but a quick wipe down with towel helps hugely. Not sure if this helps and sorry I can't advise about other brands. Celeste
There's a few good deals on Vango Aspen 500 and 700 tents on ebay at the moment. £150 - £200. Our 500 is in its third season, and is till like new. Has taken quite a lot of Lake District bad weather in the last couple of years with no bends tears or drips.
------------- Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.

rather not have an inner pitching one as I want to be able to pitch in the rain if need be-let's face it, we've all been there! Was also lookign at Khyam tents, like the idea of quick pitching (as i usually do it on my own and want to get on with drinking beer with the rest of us!) but none of them really speak to me size wise, and I am not fond of the loose groundsheets which most of them seem to have. However i do liek the fact that they seem half the weight of the outwell tents. as i live in a first florr flat getting the outwell bag up the stairs was horrendous!). any experience of Khyam tents out there? We camp a lot, so need quality but don't want to spend hours pitching a tent as it is usually just weekends we go away for.
Ive had a monty 6 , a nevada xl , and can't fault outwell for quality.
I also have a sunncamp eden 800 and my friend had the sunncamp global 600 last year and I would say they are both just as goood quality as the outwells. The global is still availble here, at £250.
The sunncamps we have are part of the sunncamp premier or platinum range or some such name, can't say what their other ranges are like for quality .
We have an Outwell vermont, very similar to the monty and it takes 20 mins to pitch it just takes about an hour to get all the gear in -
5 poles in 3 sections - so easy, very tough
if you have ehu put the fan heater on with the doors open to dry out and toweldry the outside, we've done this a few times when we've needed to be away early
I agree with the pack size - not small and certainly not light - but then the quality is there.
Getting it back in the bag - we've always managed this but theres a lot of strange looks - lots of folding and rolling about like idiots on top of it

thanks, i did really like the look of the global actually. when i saw them al up last year the sunncamps stood out as they tend to have black bedrooms - very sensible- and white outers for extra light. they certainly look funky.
am selling the utah 6 on ebay as we speak so only have a month tops to make up my mind about new tent as otherwise there will be no camping for us!!
As for Khyams this range are all SIG but as the main poles are already attached to the flysheet so that it's no light weight. Yes they go up quick but still need pegging. As for single handed erecting I have found them the best as you can raise them to half height peg and then to full height. This can be handy when it's breezy. As they are domes you are never trying to raise the whole weight at once. The annexe may increase the basic tent to a size you require.
