Being such a nice afternoon, I thought I'd have a go at putting up my Montana 6 that I brought a couple of months ago, in my back garden.

I made two quick discoveries, first it's not easy to pitch this tent on your own (especially when it's your first time!). The second thing I discovered is it is incredibly difficult to get the tent back into the bag. I tried following the instructions from the outwell video, and also the Yeomans video on YouTube, but I still can't do it.

Because we're planning to spend three weeks in France in the summer, space in our car is at an absolute premium.

My question is have others managed to pack away their Montana 6 into the bag it came in, and if so, how on earth did you do it?!!!!

High, only pitched the Monty once just after getting it and packed it away the same day. Used the the Yeoman's video to pitch it. Took a little while but will be quicker next time. As for packing away, with two of us and taking our time to keep everything straight and taught, it went into the bag OK. Take your time to get as much air out off it as you roll it up, and tie it up before trying to get it into the bag and it should go in. I suppose it is a case of practice makes perfect.

Of course when we go camping for real in a few weeks time I may be eating my words.

When you have folded it so its just shorter than the width of the bag , start rolling it from the back end , so you are pushing trapped air towards the front (open) doors. Kneel on it at every roll , sit or lay on it at the end . Drop the bag over the top of the tent and flip it over , rather than lift the tent into the bag . If it still wont fit , re roll it to get more air out.
Bedroom doors should be open as well as tent doors. It really does go back in the bag.
When I sold mine, a guy came to pick it up, he didn't want to see it pitched, but I rolled it out in the living room, he was happy, it was still like new . Then while we were both rolling and sitting or lying on the tent ,to get it back in the bag , my teenage daughter came in from school , and wickedly said , does daddy know you are rolling around the floor with a strange man ?
the poor bloke went as red as a beetroot and couldn't get out of the house quick enough.

Thanks for the advice. We managed to pack the tent on our second attempted. The first time we tried packing it the way Outwell suggests, but without success, we then tried the way Yeoman's suggest on YouTube, and that worked a treat. I think having two people packing the tent together makes all the difference.

Hi all

Thought i would run through IMO the quickest and best way to pitch the Monty. Also even if the weather is bad this will do the job without the tent taking of or tearing

1 - peg out the four corners of the tent, not overly tight but just as the tent sits on the floor. Make sure the adjustable straps are nice and slack.

2 - open the front door and go inside and walk about to get some air in the tent.

3 - slide the first roof bar through the first pole sleave by the front door.

4 - place the one leg in position on the side of the tent that has the none adjustable ring and pin and lift, while doing this if there are two people the other person could be placing the leg on the other side into position making sure the adjustable strap is nice and slack, put the pin into the bottom of the pole and lift, making sure none of the roof sleeve fabric is caught.

5 - close the front door if at all wet or windy.

6 - repeat number 4 working towards the back of the tent.

7 - adjust any pegs that need it then pitch the side extension.

Regards

Gary Cross

Getting the air out is definately key. Doors unzipped and a bit of rolling around does the trick for me. I'm not sure if I fold mine according to the manufacturer or even if I do it the same way every time. I just use the width of the bag as a guide for folding widths.

Try rolling the full pole bag along the folded tent to get the air out. The weight of the poles suddenly becomes an advantage.

Yeomans method to put it up. Doors open to pack, fold outside long edges in until it is the same width as the holdall then roll very tightly towards the door. We use the children (cleaned and shoe-less!) to roll ahead of the tent-roll, but it wont fit in the bag if you get one of them trapped

I usually get both of the kids to roll along the length of the tent as I'm rolling it up. This gets any trapped air out & the kids think it's great fun without realising they're giving Dad a big helping hand!!! 17

Hi,
our tried and tested method for getting or Sunvalley 6 back into the trolly bag is as follows.

1/Fold in half length ways(keeping all the ring and pins to one edge,
2/the half you have left fold into 3 so you still have all the ring and pins to the edge.
3/start rolling from the back keeping it as tight as possible(OH keeps infront of me squashing out all the trapped air as we go along)
4/when you get to the end tie the loose straps round it and then slide it into the bag, then fasten down with the bag straps.Job done.
It never fails for us and the SV 6 is a similar size to the Montana 6.
We can even manage to get the footprint and the carpet into the trolley bag

I'd pay good money to see any Monty 6 owners get the tent, footprint and carpet into the original bag lol! I've managed tent and footprint but carpet too? A miracle would be needed for that to happen17

Hi All,

We have recently purchased A Monty 6 and I found this video on Youtube. I have packed this tent away several times on my own and following this method also have extra space in the bag.

Happy Camping.
