Hi everybody. Just wonering if anyone knows anything about these fellas?

Like the look of this one

We would love a De Waard but can't afford one at the moment, we thought the Hypercamp tent might be a cheap and nice enough alternative. We live and camp in France so usually in hot weather. At the moment we have a Royal Avignon 6 which we are perfectly happy with but we really fancy something cotton.

So I have a few questions which I'm hoping some of you experts might be able to help me with, thanks.

Does anyone know how good quality these tents are?

What is "cottontex"? Is it similar to polycotton or is it a type of real canvas?

Would this sort of tent have a bathtub type groundsheet?

What would it be like to pitch, are these sorts of tents fairly quick and simple to put up?

I think that's all for the moment. Many thanks to anybody who can help me out a bit.

The quality of the tents is good. We have owned one and seen almost all of them pitched.

The middle picture in my profile is a Hypercamp brighton (with hypercamp tarp)

Cottontex is a polyester cotton mix. It feels like cotton but dries faster and is lighter

Some have a SIG, some have  a ZIG and others have loose groundsheets. As far as I know, none have a bathtub

I have no hesitation in recommending Hypercamp tents

If you say which ones you like, I can tell you as much as I can from many visits to Obelink lol

Hope this helps

Angie

Thank you, that is very helpful.

I do envy you being able to visit Obelink, it looks like quite a place. We are interested in either the Palamos 6 or the Superieur 6 as shown in the link.

Is your Hypercamp tent cottontex and if so are you happy with this material? (looks very nice BTW I had a look at your pictures).

Oh I wish I could visit the shop and see the tents pitched.....

I have been looking at these tents but the one you are looking at is only available in the shop, in fact all the bigger pyramids. Enter the text (next to the shopping basket with an X through it) into an online translator). I wondered though if a phonecall or email might change their mind (along with a higher delivery charge)

Obelink rocks ! And it is huge :)

The palamos 6 is nice. OH likes that one

The superior 6 is huge

Yes that tent in my profile is cottontex

Last summer it rained heavy and our pitch was muddy. The tent was really dirty and I was worried about getting it clean.

The following day the sun decided to make an appearence and the tent dried.

I got a soft cloth and dusted the muddy bits and it all came off. The tent was left looking like it had never seen mud

Thanks again for the replies.

Mmm interesting, sounds like the Superieur 6 would be a bit big for us really, there are only 4 of us and the kids are young. The cottontex material sounds like it performs well though.

Have also been wondering about Obelink's bell tents. Am very tempted by one of these beauties as I hear they are a doddle to pitch and the price is excellent.

I did a search on bell tents and the feedback seems pretty good. Would love to see one pitched but AFAIK nobody near me has them (France).

Reforse... there is no harm in emailing them (or even calling) and asking if they would consider delivery. Most Dutch people speak some English (apart from the older generation who didnt get taught it at school).

There is an English version of the site here that do some of the tent but unfortunatley not the large pyramids :(

Mrs S... Their bell tents are really good. They have them with SIG and without and also in 2 sizes. Cant think of anything simpler to pitch :)

I dont know where abouts in France you live but if I was you and was really interested then I  would pay a visit to Obelink. They usually have their tents in stock so you could have a look and then take it home.

You could even spend a night in Holland or Belgium on the way back to break your journey

Just an idea :)

Angie

Cheers Angelic for all the info.

I would love to go to Holland and see the shop but we are quite far down south in France and it is a very long way.

We are very tempted by a bell tent with SIG. I know they look lovely with the sides rolled up but when we camp we really only use the tent for sleeping in or sheltering from French thunderstorms. We camp in the mountains generally and it gets cold at night, I think the SIG would be cosier, easier to pitch too.

The bell tent ticks a lot of boxes for us. Canvas, cheap, communal sleeping space, easy to pitch, good in hot weather, and good looking to boot. DH who loves camping but doesn't really like modern tents is completely charmed (especially by the easy pitching). We camp very basically with very little by way of kit so reckon the bell tent would suit us. At the moment our Avignon feels a bit silly because there is nothing in it apart from the bed rolls and a crate of cooking stuff.

I would also LOVE to get a stove and being able to camp in cold weather. Right I think I'm going to have to start a bell tent thread.....

You mean this one ?

Or a smaller one  ?

Both have a SIG

This does not have a SIG but it is amazing

If you are interested I would email them and ask if they will deliver to France.

Or if you want it done in Dutch then let me know and I will email or call and ask ok?

Whoops I forgot...

There is a Dutch guy on here called Freebird. He is very knowledgeable and has a bell tent from Obelink

If you post a message for him I am sure he will answer any questions you have :)

Just offer him a cookie and he will tell you everything lol

I'm not sure if we would go for the 4 or 5 meter one. 5 meters sounds enormous but perhaps 4 would feel a bit tight as the kids get older. We would get a tarp to put up in front to make a cooking/rain shelter space. I see that Obelink do a nice cotton one.

The tepee is beautiful but I like the shape of the bell tent more I think.

I think I will email them and ask about delivery, etc. Do you think it would be ok to do it in English? If not your offer to put it into Dutch is very welcome and very kind. Thanks a lot!

When I have a moment I will start a bell tent thread and will try to attract Freebird's attention to it. Thanks for that too.

I see from another thread that you bought a bargain De Waard the other day. Congratulations and enjoy your tent.

I would try in English. Most Dutch people speak some English so if you keep it simple then they should understand.

If you get no joy then holler and I will happily help.

The Hypercamp tarp is fab and it is big :)  It also comes with 2 thick heavy poles and plenty of guylines.

Packs tidily into a small bag :)

Thanks a lot Angie. I will email in English, my experience of Dutch people is that their English is very good. Very helpful.

I will gratefully ask you for help if needed, many thanks.

Good to hear that the tarp is good, it looks great, very neat and a nice colour. Good price too.

Hello Angie,
I just found this thread via google and registered for this
I'm interested in buying a tent from Oblelink but it is very far for us to go there. So i just want to ask a question about the shelter 6 tent in comparison to the Firino 4/6. The Firino has a zipped in tarpaulin groundshet, the shelter has something thinner. But there is no info if it is zipped in or not. Further the Firino is 185 Cotton/Poly mix whereas the shelter says 185 cotton. The shelter would be intersting for us because the size is between firino 4 and 6 and due to the poles and thinner groundsheet it's even lighter tan the Firino 4.Would be very helpful if you could say something about these. Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany!
Heinz
