Hi Angie, well done on getting your De Waard, can't believe what a bargain you got!!
In case you haven't done it already, it's well worth downloading the details from the website about pitching it and packing it away. They give diagrams numbering where the pegs go and in which order to put them in, this is important to get the tension right on the canvas. Also for packing away, it shows how to fold it and in what order.
If you don't understand it or can't find the download, contact one of the De Waard stores and I'm sure they'll send it to you. When we went to collect our tent they insisted on giving us a lesson about pitching and packing away, they want De Waard owners to know how to look after their tents properly.
My friends started off with the Albatross plus sun canopy, but then decided to have the varioluffel (sp) but because they didn't want to go all the way back to Holland, they arranged to send the sun canopy so that De Waard could match up the zips on their new varioluffel. De Waard are incredibly helpful and customer service is fanstastic, so just because you bought it second hand I'm sure they'll be only too happy to help you.
Apparently, they will also tell you how much it is worth second hand.
Thanks for your advice Tessa but can I tell you a little secret? We live in Holland and our nearest De Waard store is only 20 mins in the car :)
I totally agree that the staff at De Waard are extremely helpfull and friendly.
We downloaded the instructions off their website and just got back from pitching her.
Unfortunately we are not keeping the tent :(
She needs cleaning and reproofing and we have no garden to do that.
She also almost fills our car boot and even though we are getting a handirack and holdall, our car is not going to be big enough to transport her with all the other gear
And a trailor is not an option as we have nowhere to keep it.
Have to admit to being a little heartbroken at the moment but hey, it was nice while it lasted and I have to say that De Waard tents are totally beautiful :)

Are you sure it needs reproofing ? Our Albatros is 19 years old (a Marktplaats special) and although the previous owners had all the canvas replaced by De Waard a couple of years ago the sun shade and side panels are the originals and not once have they ever leaked even in some real torrential rain storms. Do you know how old it is ?
Its around 20 and REALLY does need cleaning so that will mean also reproofing
You were lucky that your canvas had been replaced.:)
We just havent got a garden to do it and also the pack size is rather large for our little car
I am afraid I was lead by my heart and not by my head :(
Oh well, it will be a bargain for someone else ;)

Is it really that dirty that you need to use detergents on the canvas (and so destroy the waterproofing), we find that a good scrub with a sponge and cold water is ok ? I'm only saying this because I know people with older De Waards than this and they are absolutely fine (a bit baggy maybe but waterproof). Once you decide how much you want for it why not add postage costs to UK and put it on here in the free adverts section. It's rare for people in this country to have the opportunity to buy a second hand De Waard without the hastle and extra expense of having to go to Holland, although I kept costs down by going over as a footpassenger, meeting the sellers in the carpark and bringing the whole tent back on the ferry as hand luggage. By the way, the English term for an opbergschort is a "tent-tidy".
I only paid €25 for it and it still is a bargain for someone who can clean it and reproof it but I am not out to make money from it.
It will go for what I paid for it or free to someone who will take care of it :)
Postage to the UK would be horrendous ! You know how big the packsize is and it weighs over 50kg
OMG you carried an Albatros as hand luggage? Damn they are heavy lol
It will have a good home dont worry :)
Actually it wasnt at all baggy. It pitched nicely and we had it up in around half an hour. Now bad for a first attempt at a De Waard huh
But we did cheat, we went to De Waard yesterday to have a look how it was meant to look lol
Tent tidy.. thats is.
Still learning the lingo and now struggling with English too!
I really need help lol

Hi Angie, postage is not horrendous when you think about the cost of car/ferry/cabin/fuel to get to Holland. Value of tent to you = €25, postage around €100, extra €30 for you to cover hastle factor = total tent cost €155 which is not a bad price for a complete Albatros 20 yrs old. Is it waterproof at the moment, have you sprayed water on it to check ? Is the dirt mildew or just dirt ? . Personally if I didn't have one of my own I'd be very tempted, in fact if you are thinking of giving it away for free I will buy the zijluifels and zonneluifel off you for spares. Bringing my own tent back as hand luggage nearly killed me but it was worth it. If you search on here under "Those Dutch Tents" or go onto the De waard Forum you will find the full story somewhere. cheers martin

I am still amazed that you carried an albatross as a foot passenger. You must have eaten your spinach lol
There is a little mildew but the rest is dirt. We cant sprinkle it to check if it is waterproof as we dont have a garden and as our spare room is already full to bursting point with camping stuff and tents, we have nowhere to dry a tent anymore. One reason to have another clear out.
If we had a garden I would clean it and reproof it then it would be perfect as it has no damage and is totally complete. It is a shame but it will make a great tent for someone.
We also have a Randstad that needs the same treatment.. a good old scrub lol
Both gorgeous tents and look alot alike too .. not sure who stole whose idea lol
Think Randstad is easier to pitch though due to expanding poles across the roof :)
Tell you what, if we give the tent away, I will post you the zijschermen and zonneluifel (and opbergschort if you want it and it is the right color.. it is that reddy brown color)

Hey Martin
Sorry but the albatross is gone
There is a place that helps handicapped kids . Well kids up to around 20 and they want to take the kids camping so they are collecting tents but they all have to be the same (we assume some of the kids are autistic and like similarity etc) so we gave it to him.
We offered him the Randstad too but as he said, all the tents have to be identical.
So it has gone to a really good home :)
We are getting rid of most of our tents and have just bought a brand new pyramid (very big but will fit in the car lol) so no more tents for us for a while

Angie, The man who started De Waard had two sons, one son took over the company when he retirejavascript:AddCode('URL')d, the other went off to form Randstad (now sadly finished I think).I'm intrigued by theses "expanding roof poles", the same poles on the Albatros can be a bit tricky. If you do decide to give the tent away I would gladly take the zijscherman and zonneluifel off you, we already have 2 opbergschort, left and right ! I have temporarily added my e-mail address in my profile. Send me a quick message so we can link up. cheers martin
Martin, I sent you an email :)
The expanding poles on the Randstad..,,,,
On the albatros there are 2 poles going from the main pole to the front poles right
And one going between the 2 front poles.
On the albatros they are made up of 3? pieces
On the Randstad it is 1 pole that you expland then turn the screw type thing to lock them once pulled open tight.
It is much easier
I am not very good at explaining technical stuff but I think this just might make sense lol
Dont ask me to draw you a picture as I am no van Gogh either lol
