Hi, The sun is shining and its time to plan those quickie weekend trips to pastures new. Unfortunately our Montana 6 is a handful for us to put up, and down, just for a Friday and Saturday night. Great for a week or more but not for when all we want to do is relax with the kids, 6 & 8, for a couple of nights at a time.

Spotted the Lichfield Vermont 4DL at Yeomans Outdoors for half price, so that's a cotton 4 berth tent for £149.99! No review on this tent so would appreciate any comment on what appears to be a good deal for a frame tent that's quick to erect and with no condensation!

Happy Easter camping to you all.

If you want quick and easy look at the Quechua base pop up from Decathlon. The new one is 4 berth. It's not cotton or frame or course, but if you're after easy camping it might be worth considering.

Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.

We have a Monty for longer trips and have a Quechua pop up set up for weekends, it is so quick to put up that one nighters are no hassle, we have the 3 man pop up for the bedroom and the Seconds Base Full as the living room which has a flap to connect to the bedroom. Up and pegged out in half an hour. You can add more bedroom pods if you like as there is another flap on the blind side.

That litle lichfield is as cute as it gets  :)

It wont be a tiny pack size but it will be a quick pitch. Not as quick as a pop up of course but as you said, no condensation :)

IMHO it is worth the money :)

Thanks for the quick responses.

I'm looking at the Quechua right now and looks like it might be the answer in respect of speed. I love the idea of the almost instant assembly.

However the thought of no condensation still tempts me........

Donna - could you send me the link to that screen shot you put in your reply please? Can't seem to find anything on the Decathlon site that shows or explains linking the units together.

Thanks - Steve

Of course, the best one I have found is on YouTube, it shows you the set up in sort of real time speed and the tagging on of a bedroom pod tent, we have the 2 second pop up (3 man version) for the two of us and there is plenty of room for a double airbed and our clothes and bags down one side - I think they are reduced at the moment to around £25 quid ish last time I looked on the Decathlon website. We butt our bedroom tent right up against the bottom of the base living room and the flap over the top stops the wind and rain getting you wet when moving between the two and then you dont have to wear shoes between the two etc...

Been nosing around for more videos out of curiosity and found this one which shows how tough these pop ups are. It looks like this gang of lads all have them as the two tents in the background are Quechua base tents too.

Thanks Donna - certainly makes it look very easy! Just have to decide now on the pop-up system or good ole cotton.

Well the decision was made and we are now the proud owners of a Lichfield Vermont 4DL cotton canvas 'week-ender'.

The tent is now pitched in the garden getting a thorough soaking as per the normal 'running in' process for a cotton canvas tent - now hoping for some sunny drying days by the end of the week to get it nicely shrunk to the frame!

Just checked inside the tent and it would appear that as well as normal condensation there is some water penetration of the canvas in various places. Will it become more waterproof after a good drying out or should I consider applying some waterproofing once it is dry to give it more resilience?

All suggestions gratefully received on this very damp afternoon.......

yes it will be fine once it has dried out properly, the new fibres swell when wet, to shrink the tiny holes in the weave. Won't need waterproofing for years .

You've made the right decision Steve - it's a grand little weekender  No condensation, plus the added bonus that you can cook inside a canvas tent if it's pouring down outside

What a nice little tent! No wonder it's now out of stock.

Will you let us know how you get on with it, bluebottle?

Hello all - the tent survived the recent deluge and now seems to be dried out nicely. Now got to wait for more rain (can't believe I said that!) to see if its now water tight. Might need seam sealing around the frame reinforcement areas as I can still see bright light through the stitching in those places.

If you look at the pic in my gallery you can see that the tent I actually received is not as shown on Yeomans web page but the version with a kitchen extension/projection, made of heavy duty PVC with a mesh window, so not really sure if I could actually cook in that area now - maybe that's why they were cheaper as its possibly a 4 DLX although it is marked as a 4 DL. Everything well made though and fits together like a glove.

I'll post a review once we get our first weekend quicky under our belts. It was certainly very quick to put up and I estimate beers and barbie fully operational in around 30 minutes from arrival. Just what I was looking for - more chill and less hassle!!

Steve
