Just picked up a Cabanon 4 berth Edith Tent which  I bought on ebay this morning.  Looks to be in absolutely mint condition with gleaming white guy ropes, rubber pegging points which still have some of the protective dusting on them, and sparkling pegs.  All bought for £46 - amazing!!!!   Having subjected my wife to 8 years of camping in a 1.5 man Terra Nova Trisar we are not going to know ourselves ... luxury at last!  DOes anyone know anything about the Edith as I can't find a mention of this model anywhere?  The lady that we bought from thinks it is about 7 years old.

Great website by the way ............

Forgot to add that it is a brown/cream model so am guessing that it is quite old ....anybody have any ideas?  It looks exactly like the Elzas model but without the window on the front.   Older than I thought but looks in mint condition.

Sounds like a fantastic buy - I've heard of the Edith but sorry, can't offer any information for you.

Hope you enjoy using her - has to be female with a name like Edith!

Cabanon's are fantastic tents - you've chosen wisely.

Welcome to the forum YamahaXJ600

Just going on the colour of brown & cream, I would say that the tent is over 15 years old, but if it's in good condition, the age won't matter at all with a Cabanon. You've got a great bargain there

If the tent hasn't been used for a few years, you will need to pitch it in the rain, or use a hosepipe to saturate it, and then let it dry out fully to make it waterproof again. When a canvas tent is stored for a long time, the fibres need to swell out and tighten up again, but it sounds like it's hardly been used, so you won't need to use any Fabsil waterproofer on it.

Of course you do realise that now your wife has a bigger tent, she will need lot's more equipment to fill the space - a great excuse to buy camping stuff

Hi all,   many thanks for all your replies .... brought a smile to my face and reminded me that there really are lots of nice people still around!  Raining today so will be pitching in the garden ..... can't wait.  Just smelling the canvas reminded me of all those fantastic childhood holdays with the parents.  Can't think why we've been torturing ourselves with the micro sized Terra Nova for so long (although it is a totally bomb proof tent).

Will let everyone know how we get on in a day or two.  We're taking the tent to Germany for a week next month (sounds like we're taking the tent away for a holiday) so wil get a chance to truly test it soon.

PS .... Keely ... yeah I like my old yamaha ..... old, very unsexy but still manages to outcorner all the yuppies on their supersports bikes!!!!

Hi Mad House ... nope .... bike is here to stay although the last time my wife went on it was around 6 years ago!  Have not been to any meets ... don't really know anything about them ... must get around to it one day!

Put up the Edith on Friday - REALLY easy (easier in fact than my Terra Nova Trisar which is 1/8th the size!  Took 20 minutes in the rain from bag to sitting inside (two of us). Everything was spring loaded .... lovely!  My wife is taking the mickey as I've just been sitting in there reading!  Roll on our short break in Germany!  Have'nt loaded photos yet but will do so soon.  Can't say it enough ... really pleased with our purchase!

I think folk often think frame tents are going to be hard to pitch, when they really are a doddle...

Congrats on your new tent, and hope it does you proud in Germany.

We were looking at an older Cabanon a while ago and had no idea what model it was.

We emailed a photo to Cabanon and they sent us information. From that info, we found out it was an Emma and it was also in the brown/beige range.

If you email Cabanon asking for info on the Edith, they will probably send you the same info.

The range is fairly old but as somone already said, age does not matter as they last for years and it sounds like yours has hardly been out of the bag :)

Congratulations on your new baby... enjoy :)

Angie

Just got a reply from Cabanon (oh how I love them) ....

Dear Sir
We did produce a tent called Edith - a frame diagram is attached - sorry about the poor quality but it is over 20 years old. It was a simple 4-berth frame tent model and would have been superceeded by another similar 4-berth tent but perhaps in a different colour etc. Don't know exactly when last produced but would guess at mid-80's.
Hope this helps

More than 20 years old and the tent looks like new!!!!!!!!
