Hi  we were thinking of buying a tent carpet for our vango diablo 900.  Has anybody used one in a Diablo yet and is it worth the money ?

I'd say not worth money because they're so big you can't wash them if they get muddy, something spilt on them etc. We prefer a couple of picnic blankets that can be washed/binned as necessary. What do others say??

We have an Outwell Montana 6 which came with a carpet, and I have to say it makes a massive difference to the warmth of the tent (and feeties!). The advantage of getting one specific to your make of tent is that it will

  • Fit properly
  • Have toggles etc to attach to parts of the tent
  • Protect the groundsheet
  • Match the colour scheme (lol)


It's up to you, but we certainly value having the fitted type, it rolls up to no larger than a regular carry-mat size and we simply scrub any spills, or wash down the rubberised backing if it gets muddy.

We do, however, strictly enforce the no shoes in the tent rule now!

No experience of the Diablo, but the carpet for my Minnesota makes a big difference to the warmth. As mentioned above it also adds a layer of protection to the groundsheet.
I consider them a "strongly recommended".

I have to say . After our trip using picnic rugs last week, the essential purchase (other than deltas) is going to be the proper carpet for the Norfolk lake. I spent the week moving them, shaking them, tripping over them, and swearing at them. So im a carpet convert now.

I agree with dezzie, my picnic rugs drove me batty!!!  Have proper one for the Tamor and would like a proper one for our monty 12 when funds a bit better.

I've had carpets in my tent since long before the camping kit manufacturers dreamed up tent carpets as yet another way they can separate people from their money for yet another "essential" they don't need of not particularly good quality. People used to admire my carpets but considered them well over the top!

I have a couple of fluffy rugs in the sleeping compartment of the Aruba and have aquired recently an excellent top quality big Turkish rug which will cover most of the Aruba living space.

As with all camping stuff, unless it's specialist stuff for hill walking, climbing etc. ignore the hype and just have a look around at home and see what you can find. You'll be surprised and the quality is likely to be much better!

I love our tent carpet - and I was sceptical to start with...  but the warmth and comfort factor is brilliant - a real luxury.

my 2 small kids can play on the floor with their lego with  no problems of wet or cold and it cleans a dream. I spilled red wine on mine last week - twice - and it mopped up with no staining at all. It even brushed clean of all the little bits of grit with no real effort.

I did say to hubby that i wanted the tent carpet fitted throughout the house - only half of me was joking lol!

We do use an Outwell tent carpet in the living area of our Biscaya (which has a SIG) and it makes it really warm and cozy underfoot.
