Who on earth let the new outwell new trolley bags go into production? our previous tent was an outwell hartford xxl but after 4 years of use, 3 kids and 2 crap summers it was definately groaning! the sack style bag for this was really easy to use. Roll up the tent, bung it in and then pull on the external reducer straps. bingo. The new design is far too small  and far too ridgid. We've spent 2 days trying to get it back in the bag. We've rolled it this way and that and argued too. has anyone got any top tips? camel and eye of the needle springs to mind!. there's no way the bag will last.

yes, there does feel like there is an element of over designing something that never needed fixing. We had a 2005 sunvalley 6 which had the old sack style bag. it did what it needed to do. The biggest problem i find with our new 2008 sunvalley is that when you have rolled up the tent into a round sausage shape you are then wedging it into a rectangular shaped bag. There is no logic to it.
Although I do like having the wheels for transporting the tent from the car to the pitch, i'm not sure i love them enough. The angles on the bag make it really hard to lift into the car which was something we never had a problem with with the old bag. Maybe i will get the old tent bag out of the loft.

The only good point is the wheels. It makes it easy to get to the car,but as it is more ridgid it seems to take up more space, and is more awkward getting it into the car.(IMO)

Yeah, I can't get mine back into the trolley-type thing - damn annoying.

Anone know where I could buy a suitable sack-style for an Idaho XL?

We have a vermont XL which has a trolley bag. The trick to getting ours in is to roll it twice.

Fold it in half so the ring pins are together
Fold it again
Roll it up
Unroll it
Fold it to the same width as the bag
Roll it
Put it in the bag

I think the problem is trapped wind.

We practiced rolling the tent up and packing it several times (Outwell Montana 6) and the best way we found was - and this is from memory!!

Leave all the doors & windows open to allow the air to escape!
Fold the two long edges into the middle - you may have to do this twice, we can't remember!
Fold the whole thing in half down the long axis
Fold the whole thing in half over the short axis
Squeeze the air out of the folded bit, then roll (it takes two of us to make it a really tight roll - this is important! Sometimes you may need a volunteer to log roll ahead of you to get the air out!)

This should then fit into the bag perfectly - only time we ever have a problem is if it's been bucketing down with rain - with everything being wet it takes a bit more space, so is a bit of a tight fit.

As I said initially, we did take several trial and error runs in a nice sunny garden to figure it all out, before doing it in the heat of battle in the pouring rain! We think that is the correct order but haven't been out in the big tent since last summer so the memory is a wee bit rusty!

The first time my son and I packed ours back up , we had loads of trouble getting it back in the bag , we then went and watched the video instructions and tried again , we found by following the video to a T and rolling it twice to get the air out we had no problems getting it back in and zipping it up. We have the Maryland XL , but i do think they should have made the bags slightly bigger.

We found the same, we have the Nebraska XL and after putting it up the first time and struggling to pack it away t just got shoved in the back of the car!!  We went camping recently and it took 4 of us to roll it up and we did, eventually, get it in the bag.

I'm definitely going to try the roll in twice tip, think thats the answer, Thank You!

The chap on the YouTube Yeomans clip rolls the whole thing up from the back to the front. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdLpxDCQkHs&feature=PlayList&p=DDE2A0A7F2FEE990&index=0&playnext=1

We now do this on our Vermy (smaller M version but principle the same) & find it's the best way to pack tent but not air.

Sorry, wrong clip. It's Monty, but the same principle does apply.

Thank you so much for that. The outwell web site used to show the whole thing but clearly having a technical hitch at the mo. Twas very useful watching that clip although the principal of keeping wet to wet & dry to dry together doesn't seem to apply. would always fold in half first to keep alll the dry upper together. Oh well, will give the new approach a whirl although the thought of getting it back out of the before our next jaunt fills me with horror!!!
