Why is this tent considered to be only a 'weekend' tent?
Surely it's fine for a 1 / 2 week stay.
I'm confused as to why people are categorising it as a 'weekend' tent, surely that's a bit unfair.
What characteristics of this tent make people say it's merely a 'weekend' tent.
When I saw it pitched, I thought it was much more than that.
It's a genuine question.

Yeah I looked at it and thought it looked like a decent tent. I would consider a weekend tent one to be smaller and quicker to put up and take down!
My coleman darwin 5 takes us a while to put up and I'd love to be able to leave it up for more than a weekend without coming home again!
Thanks for replies, I'm totally confused as to why it's constantly being referred to as a weekend tent.
You could be right about the no of people, however it's supposed to be for 5!
I plan to use mine for 8 days in a windy part of the UK this summer. I trust it will be fine. It seems to me that there is an element of snobbery here for some reason, or maybe I have got it wrong. Perhaps it's the hh, or the amount of light in it, or the headroom, I haven't a clue lol

Because most folk have a humungous dome or tunnel (think Bear Lake, Hartford xl or a Monty 6 ) as their long stay tent, so by comparison the Icarus is a dinky ikkle baby tent.
If it takes two hours to pitch a tent and two hours to strike it, that's 1/12th of a two day stop. 30 minutes each end works out at 1/48th. What would you prefer? The difference isn't so much over a fortnight though.
Also people really fear being trapped in a small tent for two or three weeks with bored offspring, so they want a bigger tent with more places to hide from the kids. They can usually cope for 48 hours though, hence "weekend".
And finally the amount of crap folk think they need for a two week stay really does seem to be x7 more than they need for two nights, so they need more storage.
I am glad you asked this question! The other thread on this tent seems to be quite weekend orientated too - but I wonder if it is because Vango is very clearly marketing it as a weekend tenting commodity? That was what made me think it might not be ideal for a week because it is so pitched (excuse the pun!) at the weekend camper...

Yup agreed...Vango would much prefer you buy two tents, after all!

we bought one as a weekend tent simply because it's far lighter, packs up smaller and is a dam sight easier to pitch and stike than our darwin 5!!
I would be more than happy to spend a long holiday in this tent,it has loads of room and height in the living and sleeping areas-brilliant for two,bit cosy for 5 imho
Great stuff. Thanks for the replies. All clear now and Val, you have explained very clearly and succintly as you always do. Perhaps it's because there are only 2 of us these days - don't need as much room. Cheers all.
All I can say is as long as you're happy to stay in it then just enjoy you're time away!!!!!!Its what you think about it and what right for you that matters!!!!!!

I stayed in it for five days and it was fab but that was on my own. I think its probably that if you had four adults in it for more than two nights there would be falling outs

Hi The reason I would call a tent a weekender tent(Im a retailer)is more to do with what you expect the tent to put up with weather wise. If you are after a tent to have a two week holiday in a windy part of the UK I would suggest a stronger and possible steel framed tent. A weekender tent to me is low in price but possible not the strongest of tents, ie you go for the weekend if you know the weather is going to be good or at least not blowing a gale.
This may not be how others judge a weekender tent and I am in no way talking for Vango but we give honest advise in the shop and on the website and I would sell the Icarus range as a weekender but at the top end of this style of tent due to the Tension Banding System that the Icarus has.
