Hi guys,

I'm going camping in the New Forest in August (Hollands Wood) and the pitch size dimensions are 8m x 6m. The Tigris 800 (the tent I'd like to get) is 7.4m x 2.8m but the pitching dimensions are 9.4 x 5m, I assume this is including the area for when the Guy Ropes are at full stretch. So the ropes are going to make the tent bigger than the pitch size. Does anybody think that I'm going to have to buy a second pitch just to accommodate the rope lengths? Either that or I'll have to downgrade/size to the Tigris 600.

I would speak to the site direct. If the pitches really are marked out at that size then your guylines will run onto a second pitch and yes, you'll probably have to pay more. However sites often have a couple of slightly larger pitches, say in a corner, and if you're upfront with them they could maybe accomodate you.

On the other hand campsites often say "Tents must be no more tha x meters by y meteres" and this is normally taken as the footprint size, excluding guylines. This is how the C&CC work...their pitches are 11m x 11m approx, they require the 6m gap, so the max tent footprint is 8m x 5m and guylines are allowed in the 3m on each side of the tent, as are cars.

Yes, come to think of it, if the bigger Tigris fills your pitch entirely, where are you going to put your car?

Surely the 8x6 doesn't include a car? What size tent + ropes could you get on it with a car in that area?

Hurumpf!

Best check. Some of the forest camping site pitches can be pretty tight.

Okay, just for you I went and had a look at unit sizes on their website.

"Unit
A tent, trailer tent, caravan or motorhome up to maximum of 8 x 6 metres (A motorhome may tow a car with an A-Frame)."

Also

"Two-Person Pitch
An undefined pitch to station your Unit on and includes the first two people within the price (1 person must be over 18 years of age).  This does not include electric hook-up or hardstanding.   Space for one attached single awning or one toilet tent or a small trailer is also included in the two-person pitch price.  One car (or motorbike) may accompany all units on pitch.   Additional cars (or motorbikes) will  be charged for but may not be situated directly on the pitch."

So basically you can take a tent or other unit up to 8m x 6m footprint and the pitch will still have room for a car and pup tent. The just can't deal with some of the 11m x 11m spreading dome tents etc.

Ah, great. That is really helpful. I think I'll get away with the Tigris 800!

I'm sure with such a big site they won't come around measuring a spare few inches here and there anyway, but it is better to be safe than sorry!

Thanks again.
