Does anyone have any experience of the Relum Alaska?  I've been interested in a Cabanon Guadaloupe but the cost is high compared to the Relum, and I don't need a SIG...   Are they easy to put up (it's a ridge tent) and what's the quality of the fly like?  Any comments would be gratefully received!

Relum are a classy brand and good quality. I note though that on the website I looked at they just said "100% cotton canvas". I'd have been happier if they'd said Ten Cate or a brand name. Worth further investigation?

Edit. Found this. Ten Cate it is. Buy with confidence.

Thanks Val, that's great, what does Ten Cate mean?  Apparently the Alaska has Ten Cate?

Ten Cate is the make of canvas, considered by many/most to be the best tent canvas available.

I know someone with a Task Force model tent, swears by it, very happy with the quality of construction and materials.

The Relum Alaska is very similar to my Esvo Arizona, style & size very alike. However, the Alaska has one important difference that I wish the Esvo had, an A-frame entrance pole arrangement. Gives you much easier access to the inner tent.
If I didn't already have the Esvo, I'd buy an Alaska 240.

Ten Cate (brand name) canvas is arguabley better canvas than Cabanon canvas...but really, they're both such high quality that it's hardly worth debating. I have a 20 year old TT with CGI (Cabanon) canvas and a very old TT dating from the '70s that has Ten Cate canvas....and they're still both sound and waterproof.

So really, if you look after your Alaska it should last for decades.
