Hi All,

After much discussion around holidays & what suits our lifestyle we have decided that camping suits us best but we are determined to purchase the right tent this time having previously spent lots of money on a Vango Equinox which didn't meet our needs & only got used once.

At the moment there is only two of us but I have been looking at 5 berth tents as we are hoping that our family will grow in the years to come. We will be primarily camping in Scotland during the spring, summer or autumn. Hubby is 6'4 & I am 5'7 so we want something that doesn't leave us crawling around or hunched double but will have a large living space for eating & card playing etc when its raining. A SIG is a must as I hate beasties & hubby likes something that's easy & quick to assemble plus he can be a bit stubborn about taking too much or the tent being too big so I'm trying to find something that will suit us both.

After looking at the reviews on this site & others I have narrowed it down to the following:

Gelert Lakesbury 5
Outwell Arkansas 5
Outwell Nevada M
Outdoor Revolution Scenic 5.0

I can't find any reviews of the Gelert Lakesbury so wondered whether anyone has an experience of this tent? I haven't previously owned any of these makes but the reviews that Outwell receives are certainly positive.

I haven't seen any of the above tents up yet but will take a trip into Winfields at Hull.

Thanks in advance,

Hi,  we too have done a bit of research, and I came up with the Royal Bordeaux 6.  I know that they had some issues last year but have been promised that these have been resolved?  I am tall too and there is loads of headroom in the Bordeaux (we went to see one at PJ Camping? last weekend).  Good luck in your search and I will post when we see how we get on!

Hello and welcome; though I see that you were a member for three years before you made your first post!

Out of your stated options I would definitely go for the Outwell Arkansas 5. It is a well-designed, well-made tent; sturdy and aerodynamic (if pitched in the correct direction - rear to the wind) and you don't need to think of buying a canopy/extension as it comes with one already.

When I saw one in the flesh my impressions gained from the website were only confirmed. More expensive than the Nevada M but much more of a tent....and that porch.

Hi & thanks to you both for the comments.

So you spotted my membership date! I confess to joining 3 yrs ago as we fully intended on getting into the camping spirit & then we moved house, hubby proposed & everything stopped whilst we saved for the big day.

We are now back into the camping spirit & looking forward to purchasing a tent & our first outing, when we finally decide where to go that is!

It is definately good to get someone else's advice & this forum is great for that so thank you for responding & I will look to drag my OH to check out the Outwell Arkansas 5 before we make the final decision & purchase as its a lot of money but I want to make sure we choose quality & get the right tent for our needs.

Thanks again.

Hi

Want to check out Vango Vail 500? It's a 2007 model but still would tick all your boxes. Just bought one in April this year & we love it. 2 of or friends just ordered the Vail 500 after they've seen our tent up.

On:

Outwell Arkansas 5-spacious tunnel tent but the rounded design at the sides will jeopardise effective use of space& also pricey.

Nevada M-dont like the diagonal door opening as it could easily get wet inside when raining when opening the door.

Outdoor Revolution Scenic-door to use as porch area good but have to take it down to close door at night (hassle)

Gelert Lakesbury 5 - looks complicated with poles going at different direction.

Sorry I am just too picky when choosing a tent. I've choosen mine after many days of research & having developed my own standards after only just using 1 tent in 2008 for 6 camping 2 of which are in stormy weather leaving my tent in the bin the next morning.

Hope this helps.

A
