Just wanted to update everyone. I have gone for the Vango Amazon 800 (should arrive today funnily enough. From reading posts elsewhere I understand that I need to confirm with camps that they will accept large tents. What question should I ask them? what I mean is how should I phrase it when I phone? thanks in advance

Congratualtions on ordering your new tent. I hope you'll update us when it arrives. How exciting!

We had look at an Amazon 600 at the weekend and that is a lovely size tent so yours will be positively palatial!

The best thing to do is tell campsites the size of your tent's footprint (550cm x 740cm if I'm not mistaken) and ask if that will be okay. You really don't want to arrive and find that you're trying to pitch on a space that is too small, or right on top of your next door neighbour or anything, and you do still want some outside space as well. It is better to be safe than sorry.

Here's to your new tent and happy camping in her

Congratulations here too!! An excellent choice . I had a look again at one over the weekend , and felt that It offers considerable value for money . Where did you end up ordering from ? It also shows what a bit of consultation and advice can do . Regarding pitch sizes, these are an efficient use of space , and should have little worry on most sites. This is not the same as saying they will not charge you extra for the privilege . Ask what the size of a pitch is . If they can not be specific  ,I would be concerned unless they do not have marked pitches . You should be fine if the answer is 10m x 10m . Then clarify what additional charges they will be asking , as rather than charging for two pitches , I've noticed supplements in place for larger tents creeping in .Personally I would not go anywhere that wants to charge on the size of tent , and I prefer to go somewhere with freedom to pitch anywhere within a given area .

thanks both....numbersix I took your advice and ordered from sports warehouse (at that price it is a steal IMO). should be interesting attempting to put it up for the first time although the online video looks pretty straight forward.

I will definitely update you all when I get it (and will try and posts a few pics :)).

I also spoiled myself to the suncamp gourmet 3 burner deluxe. Came this morning and looks absolutely brilliant. I aim to get a griddle plate for it (went for this and a griddle plate over the standard two burner with grills that some companies do).

thanks again everyone for their advice and help....this site and its members have not only saved me lots of money but I believe have given me the ability to buy a tent more suited to my needs. thanks again.
