G'day all,

Probably a stupid question... I've been reading lots of threads the last couple of days, and I've seen it mentioned often that there can be a condensation inside a tent causing everything to feel damp - the roof/walls/bedding etc.

Has anyone ever taken a dehumidifier camping with them (with EHU only of course), and if so did it work well to reduce the condensation?

Or you could get a canvas tent? No EHU required!

Seriously though, it sounds like a reasonable idea for those with synthetic tents! I'd be interested to know too!

It wouldnt have any effect at all. A dehumidifier will only remove the moisture in the air, technically you are still outside even in a tent, so it would be a waste of time and not very good for the environment - (not that im an expert on this though)

Ahhhh okay, fair enough, that makes sense! I hadn't thought of it like that - but then again I had never even heard of a dehumidifier until I moved to the UK, so I don't know much about them either! :)

Technically you are "outside" in a house as well in that case.

A de-humidifier removes moisture from the air it draws through it. In an enclosed structure such as a tent or indeed a house it will reduce the moisture within the structure assuming the moisture is finite and also within the structure. If the moisture was coming in from outside i.e. a humid day and you left all the windows and doors open then it would have little effect.

In a tent the condensation is basically your sweat and breath floating around and collecting on the cold surface ie the nylon. If you had a de-humidifier running whilst you were in the tent generating moisture it would remove a proportion from the atmosphere and reeduce the condensation.

Hope that clears it up for everyone.
