Am after your experienced camping experience and insight! My OH and I are trying to read through copious amounts of reviews and company jargon as need a tent big enough for our family of 7 -  2 adults/ 2 teen boys and 3 girls aged 7-10. Can't really afford more than £300 and always after a bargain. Have a Lebe Hagen 9 ( if all 9 were gnomes!!). Would like something that's fairly easy to put up especially as N.Wales can be very windy and rainy (mind you...that's the UK in general!). Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hello,

We are a family of 6 (Me & DH, twin boys aged 13, girls 12 & 7) We have a Wynnster saturn 9 and love it with a passion.

You can read the review in my profile. I would highly recommend this tent.

Hope this helps

Hi Catalan74 and welcome to UKCS Forums.

Have a look at the Gelert Meridian 10,you might struggle to find a 2009 model for under £300,but here is the 2008 model for £329.

Plenty of space and room to sleep the 7 of you comfortably.

Hi Catalan74

Taunton Leisure has an Outwell Utah 8  for £269.  This is a 2008 model discontinued in 2009 but is an excellent tent.  They have discontinued as the groundsheet is the bathtub type and not sewn in or zipped in.  If you can live with that it is an excellent bargain.  You can get the carpet from the same site for £39 making it all in for a smidgen over £300.

The Utah is from Outwells Premium range of tents and comes wiht lots of extras such as whelled tent bags, tenperature guage etc.

There are several huge tents that will fit the family for sleeping but if the weather is bad then you will need living space for 7 chairs.

It might be worth considering a large tent with 1 or 2 bedroom pods removed to create more living space and a pup tent for the 2 teenagers.

Just an idea

Angie

Thanks for all the suggestions. It's much more helpful to get help direct and those who share similar requirements as our family. I really like the look of the 'tunnel' effect tent such as the Wynnster. Our Leben stick out at all angles and you can't get away from the Welsh winds!! I love your idea Angie of putting the boys in their own tent as I've got a Lichfield pop up tent which is grand for them. I did suggested this to my hubby but he wouldn't sleep if he couldn't keep his eye on them!!! I said I could get a 3 man tenet for them but that didn't go down well either!LOL!

Thanks for the advice and the really warm welcome

Hubby can go in the pup tent too then lol

It is quite normal for teens to have their own pup tents. It gives them a little independance and privacy too.

Our DS is 14 and has had his own puptent for a while now and loves it.

I didnt say welcome to UKCS... how rude of me.. sorry

A warm welcome to UKCS aka tent addicts annonymous lol

Angie

My teens, and pre-teens, shared a pup tent. It was fabulous, for us and them. It gave them independence and space to get away from Mum and Dad ( boring old people ) They tend to argue with each other at home, but got on really well in a tent together. I was a bit worried about them at first, but we pitched their tent as close as possible to ours and it worked out fine. I would go for the pup tent option if I were you, sharing a house with teenagers is bad enough, but a tent?? At least you can't slam a zip

Personally I would go for the 2 tent option especially as some sites are starting to limit the size tent that you can pitch in high season.

Also work out the size of the sleeping bags mats etc and see whether the quoted 7 berth is indeed for 7 as from experience the berth figure needs to be taken with a pinch of salt its much better to go on physical dimensions!.

Remembering teenage hygeine you will be grateful of the extra space that the 2 tents will give you not to mention the fresh air.

Could try Coleman Matrix 9 . Someone has posted an offer of £199.99 somewhere . Three rooms , one for the adults , one for the teens , and one for the girls. Could also use a pop up inside if necessary to create an extra room at night.
