We have the 2008 Orchy 500 along with the Large Sun Canopy...
When we first pithced together last year in the Lake District I thought it looked awkward! the tent becam very elongated and looked unbalanced (maybe just me!) However in some fairly strong winds our tent remained form (unlike other reviews on the orchy)... but the extension folded collapsed like a house of cards!
Were off again in a few weeks (North Norfolk) and as our original Orchy had some faulty stiching, that we noticed in the Lakes... we were sent a new one on our return (superb customer service from Springfiled Camping btw)... having been in the bag since then we decided to put it up in the garden this week to make sure it was ok.
Anyway... We decided to attatch the canopy to the side door and we love it this way, the tent feels more balanced and we can still use the 'king poles' to have the front door raised if required. The only problem is if it rains!! attatching the canopy to the front of the tent ensures the enterance stays dry... but when attached to the side the canopy does not fit that well or covers the side door snuggly, so when it rains there is approc 3-4" gap for the rain to run down straight over the side door.
But if it's sunny then the side option is our favourite... wife now wants the version with the door attatched for the front... but I can't see how you can attatch 2x canopys to this tent... (guy's cross)... any idea's greatly appreciated... Cheers
