I'm on a quest to find our perfect tent - I thought I'd found it in the shape of the Outwell Montana 12. But they've stopped making it!! Aaargh! Does anyone know of a similar sort of tent?

I definitely want a tunnel tent design rather than any ultra dome style because of the waste of space on the pitch - we need lots of tent space, but not lots of 'pods'! I want a tunnel which is very wide though - one that is designed to sleep 5 - 6 at each end in a vis-a-vis set up - so my three kids can sleep at one end with plenty of space an hopefully not ending up fighting because they haven't enough room! On the other side we need loads of space for our amazing new outex bed which is bigger even than king size!

We don't however need a huge amount of living space in the middle as we use a day tent for the kitchen and eating - lounging around can be done in bedrooms or in the small space in the middle, or hopefully outside in the sunshine! So I'm looking for something with loads of sleeping space, not too much living space and a footprint size of say 7 x 4? 8 X 5 max!! A small porch in the middle is ok to protect when going in/out in bad weather but not needed for anything more!

Suggestions please, I'm going out of my mind!

How do you feel about getting a tent second hand? Sometimes Montana 12 tents appear on ebay.

Have you seen the Khyam Quebec Deluxe. It is a tunnel tent and can sleep 5 each end, one end can be opened up into one huge pod and the other split into 3 if that is what works.

It was on our list as a possible new tent, but we opted for an Outwell Maryland XL in the end.

Pat, I had seen the details for the Khyam, but not seen it in the flesh - from the layout picture it looks like you only have the option of two bedrooms at one end, two possibly three at the other - so can you actually take down more dividers than it shows? We would need one huge room at one end, and one big one small room at the other? Would it do that? If so perfect! Better still do they do it in poly cotton??!!!

Pat, I've just found somewhere showing pictures of the khyam with those three separate sections zipped out to make one big room, excellent! It was here. I've just taken a look at the Maryland XL - OMG it's enormous!!! 9 x 6.5 metres! Serious parties in there!

Now I just need to find somewhere selling the Khyam at a reasonable price... I would have liked at least a little porch on it to stop the weather getting in... so if anyone knows of such a tent still please do post!!! Thanks!

We did see it on display at SK Camping, Surry. I'm pretty sure from memory that you could unzip and tie up the devider at the left end to make one large room. Not sure what happened at the other as it was how we wanted it. On the other hand I may be making a bit of an arse of myself and got it all wrong!

We were impressed with it. The layout did work for us. I don't think they do a poly-cotton version.

May be worth phoning SK Camping-01342 893 881

Have you tried phoning around a few dealers and seeing if anyone has the Monty 12 left over from last year. If they have you could get a good deal on one.

Go on Outwells web site and find all the dealers (there's a tab for it) and have a phone about.

Khyam do 2 porches that will fit on the side of the Quebec over the door. One with a closing door and one open. We had an Outwell open one on the side of our Outwell Colorado 8 and it was great for cooking and a covered area for wet weather.
