Hi All

Can you guys please advise as to what type of ground sheet we require for our forthcoming foray into camping?

We have acquired a Cabanon (Brittany) (Still no idea how old it is/when they were made, no reply from Cabanon and Google search fruitless) and now require some sort of ground sheet for it.

Conflicting conversations/info on various sites has left us in a grey area, can we use a cheap tarp or do we 'have to' use a breathable type sheet so as to protect the grass underneath. Do the camp commandant's on the sites have their own rules? do they ever check to see what you have put your tent on? what happens when you strike camp and there is a big yellow patch/soggy mess where the grass was?

Any help much appreciated!

Regards

Darren n Amber

Hiya,

I have owned a few Cabanon frame tents adnd still have one now. The very first one I bought second hand (montpellier) came with a huge plastic groundsheet which I have hung onto. I also have a huge tarp and a breathable GS.

What I use depends on the site rules and weather.  If the site deems that only breathables are acceptable then thats what we use. BUT I walways place a groundsheet (normal plastic one) under the bedroom tents to keep them clean.  If the site does not mention breathable GS and the weather is damp I use either the tarp or plastic GS with the breathable one on top as a cosy carpet.

What annoys me - is that in my frame tent some sites expect me to use a breathable GS (not so good in wet weather) but the tent nextdoor (sometimes bigger) has a built in GS so thats OK!!

I also once stayed on a site that insisted we lifted the bedrooms every other day.  A nightmare with all the bedding and beds and no where completely dry to put it as it was a wet week and we only had the breathable GS in the living area!  We have never returned.

Hi,
I would have a tarp/polythene groundsheet to go under the sleeping compartments and then have a tarp style one for the living space + a breathable one.If the ground is nice and dry then use the breathable one,if its wet then use the tarp.

Thanks for your help guys.

A tarp i can pick up from anywhere but whats the best source for a breathable? i have only seen it on rolls and seems to work out at about £3 per Sq m.

Our Cabs about 4.3m W x 5.8m L
