I have just purchased a vango venture 500 and have seen on some reviews that people are buying sun canopies for it. Can anyone advise me where to get one from and which one will i need.

Regards

The standard Vango sun canopies and extensions will fit it.  I've got the Tamor (see thread below) which is the same as the Venture, just renamed (!) and they all fit it.

The standard and large vango sun canopy will fit (not the expensive tunnel version). I have the large one and it adds loads of space. The ones from last year are quite cheap now but if you want the new one with a door then it will cost extra.

This is like the one I have..

http://www.jrleisure.co.uk/products/vango-large-sun-canopy/126/

I got mine for £29 last year so you might find it cheaper...all depends on what colour/ style you like. Mine doesnt match my tent but I am not that bothered!

We have the large canopy for our Venture 500 and bought it new off ebay and it colour matched the tent,  was delivered for less then £40:00 and is a brilliant addition to the tent, doubles the living area.

Can I ask... will a Vango one fit my Kyham Ontario tent ?  Not bothered if it matches, they do seem a whole lot cheaper than the kyham ones ?

thanks

I would definately recommend the sun canopy. We had (in the process of selling it) a Vango Venture 500 and purchased the Vango Large sun canopy and it made a huge difference. Loads of room to sit, cook etc.

If you have a new model 500 with the porch pole you are ok but if it is an older model without the porch pole it does tend to pull the roof height down a bit.

The other thing to watch out for is the guy line from the porch goes across the side door so you cannot use this.

I too purchase a canopy for my Vango Venture 500 from JR Leisure in Leicester.  It was ordered on-line on a Tuesday and arrived on Thursday morning.  We have just returned from our first camping trip since purchasing the canopy and found that it made a massive difference to the quality of our experience.  The canopy allows so much additional storage and protection from the elements (sun and rain).  I think it also added some structural support to the front of the tent.  My advice would be to purchase one if you are thinking of getting a vango Venture 500 for trips in excess of 2 days.  The only thing to note, is that I think its advisable to protect the front of the canopy with a  wind break as it is a large opening and will act as a wind tunnel.

Would one of these fit a coleman modulusx4? I have a tamor 500 and if it fit both it would be ideal!!

Were looking at the Vango Premium Extension for our Vango Venture 500. Has anybody used one with their tent yet? Just looking for some feedback really, if they are any good.

That's an old thread! Yes the Premium Extension will fit the Venture 500. Vango say it won't, but look at the dimensions and as long as the entrance to the venture is marginally smaller than the dimensions of the extension then it will fit.

I bought a Vango large canopy on line from Yeomans. I paid £29.95 plus £4.95 for delivery. I also have a Vango Tamor. Last weekend I used it for the first time. I am very pleased with it. However I am not sure if I put it up correctly. I am left with a gap on either side of the main entrance to the tent. If you pull the canopy too far over the tent then it will pull the roof of the front of the tent down, but this can be avoided by not overlapping too far. If anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate it. Even with the gaps I am very pleased with it. In windy conditions I will probably not use it. I hope this is of some help and this does not put you off. The canopy is worth having.

Tony you probably will get gaps unless you go for the specific canopy for your tent, and since there isn't one for the tamor then you'll have a certain amount of 'ventilation points'!

This pic shows the premium extension on my Icarus. There is a specific icarus canopy but I wanted extension instead, and knew it would work out as I'd seen it before. It's not an exact fit, there is quite obviously a small space between them and also I think (it was the first pitch of the extension) that I pegged the elasticated portion too tightly as it made the front hoop of my tent bow slightly. I had to pitch it in stormy conditions (note ominous cloud overhead) and struggled with getting attached as the wind was coming from behind the tent. Maybe we shouldn't have tried getting it up, but it was brand new and I really wanted to try it out. I thought we'd be putting it up temporarily but when it was pitched it was solid with having the front door and it was a brilliant addition to the tent.

The benefits of the extension outweigh any gaps at the side. I used this tent that weekend in mixed conditions and I didn't once close the front door of the actual tent itself, prefering to use the extension door as your main entrance.  It rained quite heavily and the water did not come in through the sides. I suppose I was lucky with the wind direction.

I had somewhere on this site seen some pictures of the Tamor with canopy and the gaps were not obvious to me. I am not really that concerned about these but wanted to make sure that I was putting it up correctly. The picture of your Icarus with extension looks pretty good. Thank you for your help. You put my mind at rest.

Ive seen the gaps on plenty of pictures on the internet on the venture/tamor/fireblazer (all the same tent apparently). We are still gong to go ahead and get the premium extension. We was thinking of maybe putting a ground sheet or something alike between the tent and extension to cover those gaps. However, on reading Victorias entry that the rain didnt come in on their rainy trip then maybe we wont worry about it. You know how it is though when you get a new toy, you just want to play about with it!
