I've seen a tent advertised locally which caught my eye.

The description is a bit sketchy, just that it's a 6 berth "Castille" frame tent in orange & brown.

Does anyone know who this might be made by, what size it is, whether it might be worth a try (I won't be able to see it pitched) etc.?  The wife is unlikely to be impressed by arguments like "curiosity" or "might be a bargain"....

I've never heard of the make, but if it's orange & brown, it's probably a 1960's or 1970's vintage, but don't let that put you off. Regularly used frame tents can last up to 30 years, but this one may not have been used very often.

Can you ask the seller if they will accept a 'sale or return', so that you can take it home & pitch it to ensure that it's in good condition, and that the size is right for you. If it's not suitable, will they refund you on return of the tent? It's worth asking the seller.

Thanks Jean, that's a useful bit of info.

If the tent has't been used for a long time is this likely to have affected it?  Would pitching & hosing down restore it?

f it's been stored for a few years then it will need a good soaking to make the fibres swell & the canvas become waterproof again. You shouldn't need to use Fabsil on it.

I bought an 11 year old Cabanon which had only been used once when it was new, then stored away until they decided to have a clear out & sell it on ebay. I pitched it,  put the hose on it and went inside the tent - just a fine mist was coming through the canvas. I let it dry thoroughly & packed it away. We've used it a number of times since & it's perfectly waterproof.
