we have had exactly the same problem, but think we have cracked it, in our opinion the tents which have the bedrooms running along the back with a living space in the middle and then a seperate built in sun porch seem to give you the best space and value for money. We are opting for the Kampa Lulworth 6 berth tent rrp £299,you may have to search the internet for tents that are in stock as they seem to be popular.  The other tents we have looked at are the Vango Amazon, and Khyam Montreal all aroung the £300.  Our local camp shop had both the above the Amazon was lush but slightly too expensive and i didnt like the sun porch, the montreal £340 was lovely but in terms of value for money the Kampa Lulworth seemed better.  We are going today to view the Kampa and buy.  I really hopes this helps ive researched tents and equipment for weeks on end now and just want to buy the tent and go !!!

Hi have just spent the day trooping around tent showrooms, and am more confused then ever.  We thought we had narrowed our search to the Kampa Lulworth but, we found that the back bedroom which could be split into a double and quad was very snug for even a family of four, my kids are only 7 and 4 and they would be fine in the double section however for myself and my husband who is 6ft 3 we struggled to fit two camp beds in without his head or feet poking through the back of the tent. The living and porch area were lovely and roomy.  We have since ruled this tent out for the pure fact that as the kids get older we will struggle to get in the sleeping quarters.  We have now decided to spend a bit more money on either a Vango Amazon 800 or Gelert Corus 6+2.  I hope this helps. If you have any adivce on any other tents please let me know

Outwell Vermont's are fab but then I'm bias!

We're a family of 4 & this tent gives us 3 bedroom's, a kitchen area, we use the wardrobe as the toilet & the rail as the toilet roll holder lol, the living area (with the carpet down) is perfect for rainy days especially if you have young children wanting to play games / do jigsaws etc.

We ended up buying the XL and we haven't had trouble getting onto any sites as yet. There's loads of windows & 3 entrances. Easy to put up with 2 of you and has option of additional exxtra's like extension, carpet, kids room etc.

The good thing with this tent is that you have prett much full height head room throughout. Lounge / living area has fully sewn in groundsheet & out living area has beth tub ground sheet so best of both worlds IMHO.

Have a look at the Khyam Ontario 8 which is a fab tent!!

We bought ours in 2007 and paid £189 and got the footprint groundsheet thrown in for free.

How about Gelert Beyond Corvus 6+2 if you shop around approx £310 our kids are really taken with this and it has a seperate bedroom which you take up and down when needed in the living space.  We are very tempted with this one although if you want a sun canopy this is extra try Awnings Direct they seem to be the cheapest.
