Hiya All

We went camping two weeks ago with a borrowed tent which was one of those halford package tents, did not like the tent it was cold and draughty.

Well I am hooked and  we are going to buy our own this weekend,

Although there is just the 2 of us we are thinking of the gelert horizon 8,reason being we are hoping friend or family will want to join us.We will go and look again before we make final decision any advice would be taken kindly .

I have already been buying the bits and pieces that we need cooker stand etc.

I am getting excited now and can't wiat to get the tent.

Good to know that you're hooked.

Over half term we were camping by a couple that were in an eight-berth tent.

What you must ask yourself is this: if you were to get, say, a six-berth could you get a better quality and/or designed tent for the same money as the Horizon 8.

We bought our first tent a few weeks ago, vango icarus, and we are well pleased with it.There is plenty of room for the two of us, floor space and head room.

Try and steer away from the cheaper end of the market, you will benefit in the long run. Forget Halfords and Argos for a start, cheap tents that wont stand up to bad weather, which your certain to get for at least one night of your camping trip if its a week or more.

Vango, Coleman, Outwell, and sunncamp will be your best bets for a short list.

I don't want to worry you but they're all like that 17 - it's what you put in 'em and what you sleep in and on that makes all the difference....

To stop the draughts, make sure it has a SIG/ZIG (sewn-in/zipped-in groundsheet) and I would HIGHLY recommend a carpet (or lots of picnic rugs) - sounds like a stupid thing to have in a tent but allows you to walk round barefoot in comfort (groundsheets are horrible, plastic things with minimal insulating ability - great for keeping out water and wind but not for warmth).

There are loads of other threads on here about sleeping arrangements, cooking, heasting, lighting etc so have a search and have fun...17
