I have just bought the ohvee 2 man tent that is endlesly on ebay. In the end it cost £25 without p+p. The specs say a HH of 5000! Now I have just tested a small piece (courtesy of the repair kit) and it holds water like a bowl. The other side is not even damp, so it could be close to that. The poles are rather surprisingly alloy and it is pretty tough stuff. The pegs are very light and strong. Rather than bending them with your hands they needed the full force of me on top of one. (that is alot) It is spacious and actually looks quite well built. I am not sure it is flame retardent but i just wont have a fire inside. Also it seems well ventilated. The mesh is quite fine.

All in all I am actually surprised how good it is! I haven't tested it yet apart from putting it up but looks a great buy for the money.

One problem though is the god awful pastel green with silver combo but damn it that really is the only problem i can see. All in all I am surprised!

Just used it on a blissful summer night and proved fantastic. There was a great deal of condensation on the outside but none on the inside. Really easy to use and put up. The poles were great and the build quality looks really up to scratch. I am going to say I highly recommend this tent!

Just bought one of these off Ebay. Specs seem too good to be true for the £22 I paid.

Intend to take it up to the Western Isles in just over a week on a cycle tour to try it out. First impressions on setting it up are that the materials and poles are reasonable quality but some of the stitching leaves something to be desired. It may be ok but it hasn`t been finished well.

There is plenty of space for one person plus gear. Two would be cosy especially since there is only one door. The other problem I had heard of is that the slope of the roof may be insufficient to shed water in heavy rain. On setting this up I doubt this , I think the Ebay picture gives a false impression of the angleand it should not be a problem.

I`ve also ditched the bags supplied since they are unsuitable for panniers and used an old stuff bag from a sleeping bag. This makes the package suitable for panniers and even reduces the weight to 1.8Kg.

I love these bargain tents. I`ve just got back from a tour of Orkney using a pro action hikelite (£24 Argos sale) Heavy rain/ strong wind and the tent was brilliant

Hi.  Can you post a thread to let us know how the tent performed ?

Like you, I saw these and thought "Aye, Right."  Too good to be true.  But if they really do do the business, then I might do the same as you.

cheers

I have used mine several times now and the seams look a bit iffy now (some threads strarting to stretch). However it has stood up to rain, wind and has proved very handy. It is cheap and I do recommend it. It is easy to put up. It isn't perfect but for £20-30 you are getting a good tent. When compared to some of the rubbish in that price bracket it is a solid one person hiking tent. It really is not a two person even at a stretch but a roomy one man and still quite light. I love it.

Have just got back from the outer hebrides using an Ohvee 2 man and a pro action hikelite (two VERY cheap tents) on a cycle tour.

They got a real workout with torrential rain and fairly strong winds. Heres how they performed

The Ohvee... in a nutshell ...AVOID ,for anything other than light/medium rain in a British summer

The first night we were on an uneven pitch in what can only be described as a bog. Mud squelched underfoot and it was very heavy rain. The Ohvee did quite well with no leaks from the seams but there was a little moisture getting in from the groundsheet underneath the mat. I did not use a tarp underneath so considering the conditions it did ok.

The second day was similar with the addition of strong winds. It was very stable in the wind , having a low profile, but the winds caused the large flat roof to constantly touch the inner roof and there was leaking. The leaks were not major but enough to cause concern and a damp towel to mop up. Also some of the seams started to leak, mostly in the vestibile where the standard of finish on the taped seams was poor.

I put up with this for three more similar nights with the same problems before giving up. I feel that for any longer the problems would just get worse and I would end up with wet gear

Another factor is the lack of height. I`m just 5`10" and I could not sit up, which for long periods is very uncomfortable

On the plus side : Its lightweight, cheap , plenty of room for ONE person, east to put up, stable in wind and water proof in light /medium rain. Ohvee describe it as "extreme" ...not a chance.

The Ohvee needs to be redesigned to avoid the large expanse of flat roof .The quality of the seams and tapes needs to be improved. I will try sealing the seams myself but there is nothing to be done about the roof.

I`ll just say that the pro action hikelite was better anhd put a description on an appropriate thread.

OK. Thanks for the update. Guess that I'll just avoid, as I don't seem to ever find light/medium rain. My rain is always horizontal, off the Atlantic.

cheers
