Hi all,

I'm looking for some advice on the above tent. We're fairly new to camping and at the weekend went to GoOutdoors looking to purchase a tent. The one that we quite liked was the Mojave5 as this meets our requirements (see below). I was wondering if anyone has this tent and what they thought of it or if there are any others out there similar that we should look at.

5-6 man tent (2 adults, 1 child and 1 dog)
SIG
Budget of £200
2 Bedrooms
Preferably not a tunnel

It really is a minefield out there when trying to decide what tent to buy.

Thanks in Adv.
Paul

Hi Paul

There's a review here at UKCS

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/tents/p/Hi-Gear-Mojave-5/1005

Is the front end not a "tunnel" design, albeit a bit shorter than is usually implied with the term ?

Thanks for the reply Mike,

We'd already read the review and it looks ideal for us. Before I go ahead and buy it I was just wondering if there were any similar tents around the £200 price range that I should look at also, a sort of comparison if you like. As I mentioned we're fairly new to this game....

You could probably buy the same tent as the Gelert Lakesbury cheaper. It is the same price at Littlewoods dirrect , but there are voucher codes for money off that could bring it down futher.

Thanks Numbersix,

When we were doing our research we actually came across the Lakesbury5, but it was more expensive. I actually thought at one point it was the same tent just re-branded as the photo's the same as the Mojave5, but looking at it in more detail it's actually a bigger tent.

Thanks for the link, it would appear it's retailing for £169 + £5 delivery.

Cheers
Paul

TBH Paul I thought the Mojave and the Lakesbury were the same tent, given Gelert supply GO branded as Hi Gear of course.  Interesting to know it's not. I'd have a look at one or two of the bigger websites by berth, rather than price, then actually go somewhere which stocks your shortlist and see what they're like in the flesh.

eg

http://www.dpbolvw.net/click-1428744-10475506?url=http://www.outdoormegastore.co.uk/acatalog/Outdoor_Megastore_6_Berth_Tents_42.html

or alternatively search the tent reviews here by spec, then do the same. Filtering here on 6 berth you get a huge list of 377 tents, no pics but you can sort by price, rating etc. Actually an incredibly useful resource. Let us know what you end up going for. We're all dead nosey when it comes to other folk's tents 17

Thanks Mike,

I'll try what you suggest and filter on the list.

I'm between two at the moment. The Mojave5 and the Coleman Matrix6 . After reading a few threads and reviews on this site and the fact Go Outdoors price match I'm leaning more towards the Coleman Matrix6. I went to my local Go Outdoor store but they don't have it on display or stocked so I am unable to see it in the flesh. I was told you can only purchase it online????

Ideally I'd like to keep my budget under £200 and as it's only the 3 of us (plus a Labrador)so a 5-6man tent should be big enough at this stage.

What one would you go for?????

Hi Mike,

It looks like I'll go with the Mojave5. I've just been on the Charliesdirect website and the Matrix has just been discontinued (2 hours ago)

It's a big living area and the SIG keeps everything snug. We'd originally considered the Ghobi 4 (there's just the two of us) but the Mojave had loads more room. In the end we went for an Orchy only really because we got a good price from a new GO store when they were trying v hard 17

Let us know how you get on.

I have had a good look at the Mojave, they seem great( nearly bought one) but there seem to br no windows in the front, so when its raining you are sat in the dark, so i bought a Vango diablo 600, but keep watching GO prices they really do change month to month with some big changes

Hi All,

We finally purchased a tent yesterday. In the end we went for the Zenobia. Can't wait to try it out in a few weeks time.
