Hi fellow campers

I hope you can help??

Were thinking of upgrading from our sunncamp tent to the Hi Gear Kalahari 10 (Mainly because of the offer in Go outdoors at the mo), but were having trouble finding any reviews of this tent. Has anybody got this tent and have any thoughts on it, as to whether its a good/bad buy.

Thanks in advance

Rachel

Its a good tent, it's the same as last year's Gelert Meridian 10 which you'll find plenty of good reviews about. Gelert have just licenced the model to Hi-Gear this year.

Definately a fair weather camper. I don't like rain. Rain + Tent = Trouble.

If you can get your happy hour tent next Thursday, £162.50 is cheap for a ten man tent . Dare I buy one? No I musn't ! This is a no brainer.

We have just been to look at the one on display at Oxford Go Outdoors as it is on offer next week.

We spent the best part of an hour in it!

Pluses IMO - really lovely spacious tent with some nice features like sealable pouches in the SIG for the bedroom tent pegs to go through.  The head height is mega. 2 bedroom inners with a divider curtain. The inner tents have 2 doors, 1 at each end. One door is slightly bigger than the other. The bedrooms are designed to sleep 5 in each and the divider can be moved to have a 3 + 2 or a 4 +1???!  Or we thought 4 plus the porta potti.  Both bedroom inners do the same and I reckon you could prolly get more than 5 people in each bedroom. All doorways bedroom and outer tent have mesh door options as well.

This tent is soo big I was getting all excited about all the camping furniture and gadgets I would have to buy to fill it.

The down side for me was lack of ventilation. There are 2 windows that are half mesh and only 2 rather narrow IMO doors.

I also felt that despite its size I would be inclined to buy a porch (think Gelert make one that I imagine would probably fit £79ish) or canopy for it as there is nowhere to cook under cover. The doors do have holes in them for canopy poles (not sure if poles are included or not) but the door is very narrow and really would provide little if any cover to cook under.  Also, we felt in really bad weather the rain would just roll off the roof and straight into the tent just purely down to the door design with no canopy or pole over either doorway.  We actually did have a small puddle in the tent when hubby unrolled and closed the other door on the tent.

TBH - I did really love this tent and am very very tempted. Hubby wants me to have this one. But I am not looking for a replacement tent for my Cabanon but a smaller tent suitable for weekend, so this really is not a smaller tent! LOL  Shame. I do quite like it. Am half expectin hubby to purchase it for my birthday anyway!

Its a fantastic offer on a fab tent. Go for it - if its to be your main family tent.

Hope this helps.
