Urgh. That's not a good place to have a rip, given the amount of stress pole holes take in a canvas tent. I personally wouldn't even attempt a DIY job on that sort of hole...apart from anything else, you couldn't get a domestic sewing machine anywhere near it. It will need patched, sewn and properly reinforced. Have you a sailmaker or tent repair specialist anywhere near you? Your local camping shop or caravan dealer might be able to tell you if you rang them up.

I'm confused, the main poles don't poke through on the roof of a Cabanon, do you mean the hole that the stub canopy poles go through, so on the front of the tent?   

That's quite easy to pull if you don't pull the canvas over the pole end?

If it's just the canvas around the stub canopy poles I'd probably get a decent needle and have a go at stitching it, alternatively as Val suggests find a sailmaker or similar.
