Ok so i was all set to get a vango icarus 500 this week with a view to addign a canopy to it if i need or not.  Now today i have been offered a 1 year old Lokon vario 6 which groundsheets but not sewn in ones so presume its an older model.  The lady is asking £100.   So is it huge too huge for a weekend tent for 4 and is that a reasonable price or should i stick to the icarus which i can get for £107.   Help im in a tent muddle now.   I like the idea of making porch by moving front door inthe lokon - is this really achievable?   Thanks

I've got the Gelert - a newish one - they don't have a SIG, it's a bathtub style so the lack of SIG doesn't necessarily mean it's old!

That said it is a large tent - and looking at the icarus online, it's a bigger tent.  With 4 poles against the 3 on the icarus it will probably take longer to set up.

On the plus side, the gelert has 2 separate bedroom pods which may or may not be better for you.

I've not as yet moved the front wall back to make a porch area, but was one of the reasons I bought it, especially for short breaks, but it doesn't look a particularly hard job moving it.

All in all it's a good tent and £100 is a good price if it's all OK.

Hi,

We have a vario 5, and while we love the space and it is easy to put up etc. we are VERY CROSS that the first time we put it up we found that one of the screw holdings snapped and then the second time TWO of the cords snapped inside the poles.

Not sure what to do now. The vendor is no more and we're getting no reply from the gelert email.

Help!

(otherwise, it would be an excellent tent for us)

Lokon says outer
Size outer: L580 x W400 x H220 cm

Icarus says 465x315

a massive size difference or not - hmmm.

The lady has got back to me this am and said they are flat groundsheets.  I am tempted to offer her a cheeky £65 as im thinking it must be knocking on a bit with a view to keeping it in the loft till my son is old enough to camp too so i will still need to buy a smaller one to take daughter away for weekend as promised - either a 3 berth low one or the icarus - i feel an addiction gettign hold of me!

hi. We had the Gelert Lokon Vario 5. Would definitely NOT reccommend as we had real issues with the zips! No matter how many times we pitched the damn thing there was always loads of stress on the front door zips. It looked like there just wasn't enough material and it eventually ripped!

Maybe we were just unlucky and got a dodgy one but we ditched it and bought an Outwell. The best thing I've ever done. It was alot more expensive but is still going strong years later.

We only paid £130 for the Gelert new, so I'm not sure either that £100 is a bargain!
