I have been looking at tents yet again.

I quite like the look of the Vango Tigris 400 dlx and the Tigris 600.

I have found the Tigris 400 dlx for £199 and the cheapest 600 is £187.50.  I have LOTS of questions and hope someone can help.

The 400DLX and the 600 are the same length and width. The bedroom inner across the rear of the tent is the same size in both except I think there is a little more height in the bedroom on the 600.  Not an issue with me being 5ft tall! LOL

However, I have noticed that the front of the 400 is higher at 200cm than the front of the 600 which is I think 165cm.  With the 600 there is a bedroom at the front so I assume you use the side door.

The tent is mainly for me and my 2 children (8 and 10). Occasionaly hubby may come along too.  I like the fact with the 600 I could use the spare front inner for bags and the porta potti maybe or even choose to whip it out.

Has anyone seen these 2 tents or have one or other or chosen one over the other.

I think I prefer the look of the 400 DLX but the 600 is not only cheaper (assuming its in stock)  but has the flexibility of the extra room.  However, does the front bedroom inner cover the windows and make the living area dark on the 600? I assume the living area is smaller on the 600 with the additional inner in place? Is either one of these tents any easier to erect than the other? (with just me and some children helping?)

Also, the main 4 berth inner at the rear of both tents - how does it divide? Is there a zipper or a flappy bit?  I prefer a flappy bit as I really would want to get my kingsize dbl height airbed in there alongside a single campbed and dont want to risk a puncture with the airbed overlapping any zip.

Confused as I have not seen either tent on display anywhere yet. Any advice or opinions would be gratefully received.

Many thanks!17

Wow that's a lot of questions but I guess that's what a forum is for!  Sorry, can't comment on the 400 but...

We've got the Carrera 600 - the Tigris 600 but in polycotton.  Only had 5 nights in it so far but really liked it.

With the front bedroom in place, you have a choice of 2 side doors - one with a canopy and a bug screen, the other with a door that either rolls up or can be used as a porch with the king poles.

No, the front bedroom doesn't cover the windows so you can still see out of the windows / benefit from the ventilation with the front bedroom in place.

The Carrera has alloy poles but we found it pretty easy to erect - watch the DVD and it all makes sense.  Taking it down was pretty easy and painless, too - always a bonus!  Don't have kids but would have thought that average 8 and 10 year olds would be more than enough help for one adult to put this up.

Main (rear) bedroom divider is a flappy bit that can be rolled and tied up out of the way, as we did or left in place.  We had a similar sounding airbed but felt it was a bit big for the space.  We had the dogs bed at the bottom (had the airbed going across the tent rather than up and down with it - hope that makes sense!!) and, whilst there was space, I couldn't guarantee you'd get a camp bed in, too.

We've just bought some self-inflating mats rather than using the big airbed - more because it seems to have a slow puncture than any other reason but we are looking forward to the feeling of more space in the bedroom - proper "dressing area".

We used the front bedroom for storage but, even with some stuff - table, cupboard and CADAC for when it wasn't in use outside, there was still plenty of space.  There's just OH and I with 2 dogs - an active Jack Russell Terrier and a less active and mostly deaf lab collie - it's amazing how much space he can take up and he never hears you when you try to move him but we didn't feel he got in the way.

The layout of the Tigris 600 works for us but I wouldn't want to use it as a six-berth.  I would have thought, though that two kids and an adult or two should be just fine.  You could always get one of the canopies or extensions if you feel you need more living space?

Good luck with your choice - I know it took us ages to settle on the Carrera but I'm glad we didn't just buy the first tent we thought we liked.

The 400 DLX just has a hanging down curtain - easy to remove.

My guess is that the extra bedroom in the 600 does not cover the side windows; it's not very deep and the sleepers are orientated sideways-on.

Personally I would go for the 400 DLX. The extra bedroom is of limited use. Afterall, if you do have extra guests is it absolutely necessary for them to have an actual bedroom rather than just sleaep in the living area?

Hi

We have just bought the 400 DLX after thinking for a long time. Just waiting for it to be delivered. The 400 DLX front is higher so felt this would give the impression of more usable space and we didn't think we would use the additional bedroom in the 600. We only ordered it last night at £199.We are a family of 2 adults and 2 small boys. If it is too small then we will buy the porch or extension at a later date.

I currently have an Vango Oregon 400 (similiar to the Tigris 400) for me and my two girls (6 & 4) and am about to upgrade to the Tigris 600 (I think, decision not quite made!)

The 400 is not quite big enough when hubby comes along and the living area gets really cluttered (I'm not a particularly tidy camper, but I do hate tripping over things). I plan to use the 2 bed inner for storage and the porta loo and it still has as much living space as my Oregon 400 currently has.
