Hi everyone one, new to using forums and very very new to camping.
I'm after some help we as a family are thinking of buying a tent and start camping, we are a family of 4 and not sure what size tent we should be getting we are thinking of 8-10 berth(not sure if this would be to big).
have been looking around (on the web) and have seen a Hi Gear 10 berth at gooutdoors for £189.00, we are after some advise on the Hi Gear range.
Or any other advice on other makes.
hope to hear fom some of you cheers.

Hi and welcome to ukcs. Might be useful to have alook at the tent review section, I've found it very helpful in the past when choosing new tents. Its written by us so it includes pros and cons. Otherwise i'm sure someone will be along shortly with their thoughts
Whatever you choose, Hope you enjoy camping. I have used this site for all things camping from equipment to finding campsites...I wouldn't go anywhere else
Hi and welcome to the site. I am pretty new to the forum, but have found it both useful and entertaining. I am also new at camping- we camped for the 1st time in ages in our Gelert Horizon 8 birth and had a fantastic time, the weather was amazingly wonderful for camping weather! Our tent is a tunnel tent and was really great for us two adults and two teenagers, plus plenty of room for seating.
We are due to go off again as I have got the bug, but I hope the weather remains on our side as I'm not sure how the tent will fare in winds (gulp).
Now youv'e started on the forum there is no turning back.
Best wishes Lynn

Welcome to the site! I find it very useful, especially for finding particular campsites there are very honest reviews on most campsites!
Kampa have a great range of tents this year, they are made with a lovely material and I don't know where you are but Caseys in Chester have a great range of tents up! We have recently bought the Kampa Polzeath 8 which is really huge and a great tent.
Nothing beats seeing tents set up and walking around iand getting inside them.
Find out if there is a large tent retailer near you who has tents set up on display. also, don't underestimate the space a family will need for storage etc, especially if the weather is wet and you are inside the tent.
Hi and welcome aboard, if the tent in question is the Kalahari 10 its a cracking tent, my oh thinks its the bees nees and she would go as far and say she would buy it, we looked at it at Go outdoors and it was double that price then and we thought it was worth the money then so its a bargain at £189 but it is a biggun but then again the misses likes em big
its same make as Gelert and its not a bad make at all we have a Gelert Zenith 6 and love it.
Good luck in which ever tent you choose.

Looking forward to our next trip

Hi everyone, not used this forum before but we went camping t'other day and we have got the bug good and proper now.
I would recomend going along to one of the big stores like "go-outdoors" 'cos the tents are all set up outside and you can have a good butchers and see what you want for your needs, size of family etc.
i wouldnt of thought there would be a problem getting it onto pitches and i wouldnt of thought they would charge extra "some sites charge extra for tents over 6 birth" but the tent you are looking at is ok as it isnt much longer than a large caravan and not any wider than a caravan so it should fit onto most if not all pitches.
Try and see the tent in the flesh if you can to get a proper idea of the size and quality. Are you able to borrow a tent off someone as a £200 quids a lot of money to waste if you hate camping, thats why theres loads of tents on ebay
Cheers Ian
