hi all i have been thinking about getting a gelert corvus but i have heard reports that the tent wont sit down to the ground properly so i sent an e mail direct to gelert and this was there answer hope this helps

If the tent is pitched properly all of the pegging points are secured the tent will sit flat on the ground. The fully sewn in groundsheet acts as a spacer between the poles tent. When the tent is correctly pitched and all poles are in the right position the groundsheet will sit flat on the ground and wind should not get underneath to the extent that it will lift the groundsheet. This is not a problem that has been reported to us or that we have encountered during our trialing of the product prior to selling.

Hope this helps

Kind Regards

We were going to get a Corvus 6+2, but having read some of the reviews that are going about, and having looked a couple over, (one of which was showing a wind raised floor in the tent display area of the dealers), I decided against it as it appears to need some minor faults ironed out before it achieves its full potential. I get the feeling that maybe "next years" version of the Corvus, with perhaps a little more Velcro around the door flaps, and one that maybe sits on the ground every time, will be a better buy...

.... we now have a nice new Outwell Vermont instead, which goes for it's first trip later today. Hopefully Gelert will fix the problems with the Corvus as for its size and price it's a pretty good buy for those looking for a big family tent.

:)

TVS.. please do not be put off from this fabulous tent, It may be that I am inexperienced in pitching (I hope so as I will be unable to enjoy this tent if I cannot resolve the fly issue) I haven't had the opportunity to practice pitching this tent, albeit have camped twice in it, but then you just want to get it up and your belongings in...

I have emailed gelert again at the address you sent to. lets see...I would like to think that a UK company would respect its UK customers..

Do you think they read these posts eh??? 17

REPLY TO EMAIL AS FOLLOWS:

I would like to apologies for the delay in this matter of answering your first email.

Reading your following email the only answer I can come to is that your not on flat ground, if I am wrong apologies, however I have heard that this can happen if there is a sligth hill or bumps in the ground, if this is not the case if you could supply me with a picture of the following I can see how this is happening as I have not heard of this before.

Unfortunately we do not have instructions other than what is supplied with the tent,

However please see the following is how I would put this tent up by personal experience.

Put the flysheet flat on the ground and insert all the poles (into the sleeves)

Starting from one end if one person clips the pole in then holds it upright while the person the other end clips it in,

Then still holding that pole upright do the same working your way down till all poles are in with the pins and you are holding the tent up right, then get one person to get an end guyed line and peg it in *not tight just roughly, then holding the other end poles walk away from the pegged guyed line making the tent open  up

You then need to go around and roughly peg it in *put around 4 pegs in each corners and the guide lines*

1717 thanks to Kim for replying,

I need to pitch when I have some time and have a good go at getting this right.........

Hi all

As mentioned in a previous post I did have the problem
of the ground sheet not sitting flush to the ground but
on a recent trip to the lakes we pitched the tent and there was no issue with the ground sheet.
This time I pitched the tent with my OH as opposed to the 1st time when I pitched by myself. This is how we did it.

1.Laid foot print out then positioned the tent on that.

2.Put all poles in then pegged down the ground sheet at the front door end only and erected the front pole and
pegged down the guy ropes again only for the front.

3. We then moved along pegging down the following poles,me one side wife on the other. When we reached the end we then pegged down the ground sheet at the back of tent.

4.we then moved back along the tent pegging down the ground sheet from back to front.

5.Finally Pegged down storm flap and guy ropes.

After taking a little extra care and time over the pitching the tent was flat and ground sheet was nice and flush with no wind lifting the ground sheet and we had a fear amount of wind that weekend too.Once we put the carpet in and all are stuff the tent was perfect and absolutely huge inside. I will post some pics when I get a spare 5 mins. Please don't be put off buy some comments on the forum as this tent is a cracking buy for the money and if you take a little extra time over the pitching of the tent then you should have no problems really.Practice makes perfect as they say.

Regards

Chris

Glad you have it sorted, and fair play to Gelert for taking an active interest. I will be upgrading to this tent for next year and was put off by the encountered problems. It is a lovely tent and suits my layout requirement.
I have had a problem with my horizon8 with the interior of my blue tent being green! via the dealer Gelert supplied correct blue bedroom in just a week. Its when you have a problem that band loyalty is built up, I would buy Gelert again knowing if there is a problem they will try to sort it out. There is a tread running at the moment about Vango that puts me off buying their equipment

I know it is something more to carry and agree that a all round zip would be much better on the end door, but would a wind break help to stop the wind blowing though the bottom of the door?
Could a full length of velco be hand stitched in and then sealed with seem seal?

The sun canopy would probably solve the water ingress through the main tunnel door under most circumstances, although at extra expense. I'm not sure how I would feel about trying to add more velcro!

Hi, we bought a Corvus 6+2 and have to say that we havent had any problems with the tent sitting flat..However!! I found the instructions were inadequate. The guy in the shop told me to guy the sides of the tent at 45 degree angles pulling away from the middle which worked fine. One thing that is VERY annoying. If you have bought a porch, I would be fascinated to find anyone who has manged to get it on the tent!!!!! Unless you have the poles correctly spaced (almost to the centimeter, it wont fit). We took 45 mins to put the tent up, and spent an hour trying to do the porch..and still didnt get it right. All in all we are very happy with this tent, but would love to hear from anyone that has actually managed to put the porch up! Am I right in the fact that the tent has to exactly fit the measurements supplied to put the porch up?

Hi HON65,  we pitched it back to front, do you think it would make a difference the other way?  Unfortunately we didn't take photos, wish we had now!  We're going again end of the month so will make sure we take some then and post.

Have you got the porch?  Damian
