Just bought a vermont XL (from The Family Tent Shop) it came with instructions to 'weather the tent' i.e. pitch it in the rain, or hose it down then let it dry - to activate the waterproofing. I've never heard of this before, I'm intending to use it in a few days and probably won't get a chance to do this. Has anyone got any comments on wether this is neccesary, or if there may be any problems if I don't

HI, i've just purchased a vermont (L) as well, from yeomans. I didn't get any instructions re weathering it though. I always thought you only had to do this for canvas type tents and not synthetic tents. I don't see how getting a nylon tent went is going to make a difference.

Just out of interest what method did you use to pitch it?

Hi,

There is no reason to pre weather a nylon tent.
On polycotton and canvas the reason to do this is when it rains on it for the first time it tightens/closes the fibres and the tiny holes where the needle has been.

If you want to have peace of mind then take a tube of seam sealer with, you do sometimes get the odd seam that leaks. And we always take a small can of Fabsil, its best to be prepared just in case.

Cracking tent the Vermont, really strong with good family design. You don't need to soak it, there is simply no point. Enjoy your new purchase.

If we were in the market for another synthetic tent then there would only be one for us......

The Outwell Vermont L,everything you could wish for in a tent, roomy, storage, large inner, massive front porch and easy to put up.

I've just ordered the carpet to go with the vermont but i've just had a thought. How does the carpet fit down with the wardrobe in? I pitched it for the first time yesterday and i'm sure there were clips on the floor to clip the wardrobe into, won't these get in the way with the carpet down?

You can unlock the clip of the wardrobe, slide the carbet under and there's a hole in the carpet to clip back up, we used the wardrobe as a toilet in the night, with a porta loo in it of course , not the floor 17. Cracking tent and I agree with Sue, if we bought another outwell, this would be in the top five.

Ah ok I thought there must have been some kind of hole in the carpet or something. Thanks
