Thanks to everyone for all the ideas! Having surfed for many hours, and spend even more tramping round and round sites and shops and oooo you know the routine, we're now the proud owners of a Vango Sungari 400. It's plenty wide enough for the 3 of us, and should do off-season weekends a treat! Even better, we saved at least £20 off the lowest internet price, thanks to our local stockists having a 20% off sale at the mo. So now I'm about to book somewhere for the weekend after next.

We shortlisted 4 tents. The Vango Icarus was completely out of stock and we weren't prepared to buy it online unseen (that's if I could have found it in stock, most places were out). The Hi Gear Atakama, only £70 at Go Outdoors at the mo, lost out because the groundsheet wasn't sewn in in the porch area, and as we're not planning on a carpet for this one, evening draughts in the autumn don't appeal. Otherwise a cracking tent for the money! Runner up was the beautiful Outwell Nevada M, which is one of very few tents we've seen that could have met our needs for both weekends and long stays - but at £220-£230 in the sale, still just too pricey. We spent rather more than we were planning to on the Sungari (just under £180) but hubby at 6'1 can stand up throughout, the porch opens right up for that Indian Summer we're going to get the inner is spacious and we can sit inside if we have to all day without feeling cramped.

Will review it properly once we've used it.

i'm looking to get a bell tent for weekend camping for the five of us. they are supposed to be very easy to put up, and have the comfort of cotton tents in the summer.

Thanks Linny!

We used to have a bell tent when we were kids, really really great fun!

I'm really wishing we'd stuck with camping holidays in the interim - hubby had never been camping till he met me, we did it a lot in first 3 or 4 years of marriage then did Other Stuff. Now though got the bug again good and proper, and with Big Bertha and Weekend Wanda we're all set
