Does anyone know where I can get spares for this tent, (Lichfield Paladin 5).

The tent is a cotton flysheet version of the Lichfield Challenger 5, (I think), and uses basically the same poles and end fittings.

The parts I am specifically searching for are the ridge pole end fittings.  These are made of plastic, semi-spherical ended with an elongated slot/hole that fits over the upright poles at either end of the flysheet/tent.  They are press fitted into the ends of the ridge pole.

I have actually converted the tent from internal upright poles to A-poles to allow easier movement within the tent but the same ridge pole is employed.

I could do with at least 4 of these parts.

Can anyone help?

Hi,

mkn139 - Thankyou very much these are exactly what I want!

I searched and searched for these.  What did you put into the search to find these?

Rosamundi - I have contacted Lichfield but no response yet.  I have also contacted Tent Spares UK but their response was a negative.

I was searching for ridge tents (just looking, honest), and they came up.
Your thread had caught my eye earlier as I've just recently bought a Lichfield Paladin 5, have you used it yet since you converted the uprights to A poles, if so did you find alot of difference?

Yes!

I have had the tent probably going on for  over 20 years.  When I was at school, over 35 years ago, (I'm 53 this year!), I remember going on a school trip to Switzerland for 2 weeks and we were in some borrowed 2 man tents.  I can't remember what they were called but they were really good quality with cotton flys and some with A poles.  Some of the others didn't have A poles, they were single centre pole design but the same basic tent.  They were harder to erect and but to easier to collapse!  Kids being kids, you only had to bump into the centre pole and the tent was down!

Back to the Paladin, the one upright pole was right bang in the centre of the bell end and it was really awkward stashing gear and when you were moving around in the dark.  I had a small daughter at the time bustling around and there were times when I thought she was going to bring the house down in the middle of the night!

If you can find the spares to convert then I would suggest you do it, but keep the old poles just in case you don't like it.  You will need the A junctions and some extra poles to account for the extra length needed for the angles.

You can also modify the front end too.  The spikes on the upright poles that hold up the front section can be bent and the total length of the pole increased to make it longer to take into account the angle, (Pythagoras' Theorem and all that!).  If you do decide to do that you will need an extra pole to support between the top of the 2 poles, with the ends that you have helped me out with over the spikes.

Aren't tents much easier to erect these days!  These new exo-skeletal domes and tunnels are far better don't you think?
