First off  -- I'm probably on hiding to nothing here - but...

I need to replace my sons little tent that he uses ( well we use )  for garden camping - and I need something for the odd quick stop ( ie - en route stop overs )

But as I wont consider anything thats not pollycotton - my shortlist is this

Outwell -  Baltic Sea M

Outwell - South Sea 4

or - Outwell South Sea 3 - a tad small - but I have lined up a fab deal on same

does anyone have any of these - and comments please

I know that small PCs are not too popular - but it has to be that way - sorry I just wont consider anything else

Simon

What's wrong with a good old bright orange vango force ten?? I recently picked one up off ebay after coveting one for twenty years...and though possibly more suitable for extreme camping - think wet - think windy - think wales - we've camped in our garden recently and had a ball...ten minutes to pitch and indestructible, what more could you want? :)

Just bumping this thread as I'm thinking about something similar.

Didn't know the force ten was polycotton!

Well YES  totally agree - the Vango force 10 looks fab !  sort of like being whisked back 40 years !!!!     And I assume that given a price tag of £330 - its probably NOT made in the far East - ( well we can hope )  - so yes a great tent.

In terms of size however - - its dimensions are very simmilar to the Owtwell South Sea 3 - and at much less than half of that - well - Im probably going to go down the Outwell route - unless of course I can fond a second-hand minty one !!!

Thanks for the recommend - great to see you can still buy a "proper" tent from the likes of VANGO

My Vango Force Ten is cotton not polycotton and the inner is cotton too. It's very warm and very weatherproof but it is tiny..just big enough for two!! Mine's a MK2 made in Scotland one circa 1972.

The new ones look good but as far as I'm aware are made in china, along with all their other tents not sure i'd pay £300 for one.

I think the only tents made in britain now are those Wild Country ones and maybe some bespoke wigwam thingies.

Best of luck.

there is a place in Bradford that still makes cotton tents, main customers look to be Scouts etc but they do some nice quality stuff at sensible prices. Our next one will be from there or Obelink

I think BCT also make Relum cotton tents but not sure (see Jacksons camping for prices of Relum and tents just like BCT website)

not adddressed to spudz but I can answer cos we were both talking about the same people

if you fill in the contact sheet on BCT web page a very nice lady will send you catalogue with prices. You can order direct but not go see them

Tents direct (look under Scout tents on their web page) and Jacksons Supplies (not Jacksons Camping) appear to stock them under Relum brand name

BCT sell to Joe Public.
An acquaintance of mine bought a large Task Force with extension from them and is very happy with it.

Hi Simon. I was thinking of getting a small polycotton eg. the south sea, for my touring trips, but was put off this because of advice on this board. Essentially I was told that if it had rained all night the polycotton would be a swine to put away as it would be damp and would need drying asap. Is this not the case? I was told to stick to synthetic for touring with.

If all above is true...but you pack away the tent anyway as you've got to get going... what do you do with the damp tent if it continues to rain for the next few days at your main destination?  I see you have the Bear Lake also so would be interested in your thoughts.

Shimmy.
