.......just been out looking at tents locally I had narrowed it down to a choice of 3 the Kyham Petworth Coleman Weathermaster L or the Outwell Montana 6
80% of the time I will be by myself but Oh will come when the weather is warm so I have to be able to put a tent up by myself
The Petworth fit the bill perfectly with it's Rapidex system but I was worried about the 3000hh as I will be camping later in the season
The Coleman was proving hard to get hold off all though it would have been OK too
Soooo I phoned Camperite who had 2 Montana's in stock and put my name against one with a footprint £400
But now that I have got home why do I get this feeling I have made a mistake or is that just normal after buying some thing as I don't normally buy a lot (OH spends enough without me helping)
PS also bought a Ford Galaxy for OH and the dogs
We only went out to look at tents and stuff
So rather an expensive day really

Well, you've chosen a popular and well-regarded tent. ut putting pitching it by yourself will not be easy. If there is no wind it can be done but.......
I know what you mean; making a big decision is always accompanied by some nagging doubts. I do think that putting up a Monty 6 on your own will be a bit of a challenge. I can manage our Vango Orchy 600 and Vango Quest 600 on my own but these are both lighter in weight than the Monty as their poles are not steel.
Would it be worth checking with the seller about what their money-back policy is, in case you find you can't manage it solo?
Or is there a possibility you might end up like a lot of us on here and have a collection of tents including larger and smaller ones that fit different purposes?
Probably end up with a collection of tents Foggers
But the seller did tell me a good technique to use It's one that the lad who puts his tents up uses and it sounded fairly simple the way he explained it If not I shall have to rely on the generosity and good manners of my fellow campers to hold me pole for me

As I have never done it I don't know whether it works but what he said was
Lay out the foot print then lay out the tent
Thread the roof bars attach the legs Peg down the corners and one end of the tent then pull the other end up
Like I said it sounds a simple way and I can see it working but actually doing it we shall see
If I can do it I might even produce a video and put it on YouTube
that's the way we do the Sun Valley but an extra hand is always welcome.
You're sure to find a spare pair of hands on site.
Saying that Val and Woofers can do the Bear lake 6 themselves and they do it the way you described (sure they said they did it like that ).

There is a utube of this technique. Mark (?) from Yeomans- he does it in 8 mins (though poles already assembled etc). Think this is it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwPkZ872vbw
He makes it look easy but those steel poles are rather heavy! Lovely tent though. I have had my eye on it for ages.
There's a Monty on eBay for £199 from a seller in Cumbria at the moment (not me or anyone I know). They have a canopy listed separately too and I think they said other bits and pieces as they had bought a van?!??!
No bids and little time to go.
Well done snugglebabe I was going to post that link but you beat me to it - yeah that video is awesome, not sure I could match the time but that's definitely the method I'll be using on my M6 next time. It'll free my wife up for foreperson duties too. I wouldn't be too concerned about the weight cos you're only lifting one frame at a time this way, as far as I can tell.
I'd also like to say you've made a great choice in the Montana, it's a lovely tent, we love ours for sure.
Funnily enough we've got a Galaxy too - plenty of room for the tent, kids, barbecue...And I only went in the showroom to test drive an S-Max
Alas I won't be using the Galaxy My work horse is a Mondeo estate so everything should still fit
I know what you mean about going to the showroom though Bought our last 6 cars after popping in for a Sunday afternoon wander
I struggled to pitch my Khyam Excelsior XL, which is the older version of the Petworth, even when it was not particularly windy.
However, I am only 5'2.
