Hi - we are travelling around France in a few weeks - myself, my wife and our baby daughter.

We are looking for a tent with sleeping room for all of us in 1 compartment and then a living area that is tall enough for us to stand up in.

I guess we need at least a 4 man tent with the equipment we have. We are going for a 2 weeks and will be putting it up and taking it down quite a bit.

It needs to be decent quality and ideally light but that's not so important as we wont be carrying it that much.

Also a porch would be nice and somewhere to hang a lantern but that's a 'nice to have'..

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

What sort of budget do you have in mind?

For just under £100 you can get the Licata 400 which has a good size bedroom, large living area, SIG and standing height. Very easy to pitch and you can get a canopy to extend the living space if you want.
There is also the Licata 600 which may be better for an extended trip - you could remove the 2 berth pod to give you acres of living space.

Or if you have a bit more cash at the ready, I can highly recommend the Khyam Ontario tents - we have the 8 berth but they do a 6 berth. Fabulous piece of kit!!

We have a Vango Tamor - it easily takes 2 adults, 7 year-old boy and collie. We also have a Vango Vista DLX, but if you are planning on moving round and will need to put it up and take it down fairly frequently, I would really recommend the Tamor. We bought it from the Scouting Associations website in their sale last year for around £70 - it is a super little (medium sized actually) tent.

Excellent - thanks for your help, that's really useful. Don't really want to spend much more than £200 so those are well within budget.

Any other recommendations would be great.

I'll look into those tents now.

Thanks again.

This 3 person Relum Alaska is a smidge over your £200 budget but would be very quick to put up and down, is only 11 kilos and, most importantly, is cotton canvas so would be much cooler and more comfortable for you all to sleep in in France than a nylon tent. At 1600mm high it is slightly shy of full standing height for a lot of people, but you can get a larger, taller, 4 person version, see here .

We have an Outdoor Revolution Scenic Premium 5, which has a large bedroom and living space, both of which are full standing height, along with a side porch and front porch which give extra space.  The side porch is handy for if its raining to keep the wet stuff from inside the main part of the tent.  It normally sells above your budget, but I found this site selling it for £199.99  http://www.somersetcamping.co.uk/products/outdoor-revolution-scenic-premium-5-0i-5-berth-frame-style-tent-2009-model/270/

I've not bought from this site before, so don't know what the service is like.  We've found our tent to be of very good quality, and have not had any problems with it at all.

Thanks for all your help - that's great information.

Just 1 other question - I was looking at this:

http://www.belltent.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=1&products_id=3

I like the look of these.

How suitable would one of these be? Anyone had any experience with them?
