Looking for new tent, am single mum with a 3 yr old. Budget approx £100.  Looking at 3-4 man tent (for extra space & if friend/family member joins us). Would like tent can stand up at least in part of it (I'm 5 ft 3) but it seems that tents that increase in height increase in width and length too.

Would also like netting, at least in part on bedroom door, flame retardant material, a porch area, sewn in ground sheet in bedroom (would be great in porch too).  Oh, & a BIG plus would be some chance of putting tent up on own (although chances are will be group camping with another adult available).  & if it has lovely windows, high-viz pre-attached guyropes, pockets etc etc I'll be a happy lady (or am I pushing my luck?)

Would also like a door to turn into canopy unless someone can suggest a simple solution for tents without?

I've looked at Gelert Stratus 4, inc DLX but there's no netting (although no-one has been able to confirm 100%). The Vango Beta 350 but can't stand up (I don't think?) and no canopy (although not sure that is a must?).  My favourite is the Vango Icarus 400 but it's sold out everywhere.  & really all these tents are too big length and width.  What I would really like is a smaller version of the Icarus but can still stand up in.

Any suggestions, tips, info would be very very gratefully received because this search has been doing my head in.

Many thanks in advance

Sara

I've been really pleased with my Gelert Tornado 5DLX, which I seem to remember cost about £80.  I'm only an inch taller than you and had plenty of headroom in the bedroom area and most of the living area too.  The bedroom area was nice and roomy and there's a piece of fabric which I assume is to hang up and separate into two rooms, although I'd not used it.

The ground sheet is sewn in for the bedroom and lies flat for the living area but even the heavy rain on Sunday night didn't get in.

Oh, and best of all, I can put it up by myself.  Did have a few practise runs though.

Hope that helps.

We've got a coleman columbus which would tick most of your boxes. It seems to be sold out almost everywhere apart from ebay though.

I can highly recommend the Licata 400.

I'm 5' 1" and can pitch it on my own (only has 3 poles and is a tunnel design so easy to put up), has SIG (sewn in groundsheet), standing height, decent sized bedroom which can be divided with a curtain and good size living area. Door can be canopied out to form a porch (poles included) 2 massive windows with roll up curtains and 2 smaller windows so lovely and bright, good ventilation, 2 bedroom doors have insect nets as well as privacy doors.
Think that was pretty much everything you asked for!!!!!

If you search around you can get it for just under £100 (I paid £99.99 delivered for ours last year)

Hope that helps a bit.

If you can go up to another £50 how about one of these?

http://seconds.quechua.com/index.php5?lg=EN#/produit/18/

They look really easy to set up. I know the video shows in a minute, but even in 10 would be better than most. You could set up a tarp for the kitchen, and you are sorted!

how about a Vango Venture 500? seems to be selling for about £100 at at a few places online at the moment, but often is around for about £70. It's more like a 4 berth really, it has a good sized living area for the size of tent - would be fine for the 2 of you and the occasional other guest - you can stand up, and there is sapce in the porch area for a couple of people to sit in chairs

We have one, though it is a little worse for wear and we had an issue with the Ground sheet flaking after some use - a problem I've seen reported with various vangos. But it has taken a bit of a beating from the weather in a few places.

There are reviews on it in the review section

You can out up the front door as a canopy, but TBh I've never found this to be a useful function on any tent really. The resulting canopy is too small and flaps about a fair bit.

Better to use a canopy of the front (you can get a Vango one to fit over it) or a tarp
