Hi friends!

On trying to erect our Monty-6 for the first time last weekend we first tried to erect it by way of the Yeoman's video (Rear Pole then front pole and then erect middle poles) but it proved very difficult and a painful struggle. Then a friendly neighbouring camper, who saw our struggles, came and helped. He used the original 'Outwell video instruction', method by erecting front poles and then moving towards the back. This worked but still proving a hefty task. I have a serious back problem and have a spinal implant thus it was a bit of a painful experience. I do expect some pain from erecting any tent.

We did notice that when trying the Yeoman method (Rear pole followed by the front pole and then erect middle poles), we had put in the roof poles when raising the front and then rear. However on revisiting the video I noticed the Yeoman's guy didn't fit the middle roof poles until the front and rear were raised. This should then make it much lighter when erecting front and rear.

We are off again next week and would love your experience through your thoughts or advice on the best way to erect this wonderful tent. We have also now purchased the front extension and any tips for erecting this would also be gratefully received.

It really causes me a lot of pain when it is so heavy. Before buying th Monty-6 we had the 'quick erect' tent, Khyam Excelsior, which was a doddle to set up and indeed a very fine tent but nowhere near as good as the wonderful Monty-6.

Any advice or tips would really help and genuinely ease the pain.

Many thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe,

We have the Monty 12 and have tried just about every method possible to find the best for us. We normally work as a team (The FPO and I) and fit all the legs and then pull the tent to standing and place over footprint. Prob not something you would want to try with a bad back!!!

However after last week away, and the fact that there was a light drizzle when we took the monty and utility down on Monday. I put them up in the garden last night. Was the first time that I have solo pitched the monty. Found that it was best to do the two ends and then go back to the middle. Did try doing it section by section starting from one end but the tent needed the ends up first and fully pegged to keep it supported. Once I had worked that out it was a easy enough. You are correct about putting the roof poles in after the tent is upright for the middle. The other thing to remember is that one side of the tent will have the adjustment straps for the pins that go into the legs. Remember to do the side without the adjustment first to make it less of a struggle to when fitting the second leg/pins.

All in all had never realised that the monty was so easy to solo pitch, took about 35 mins once i had realised the error of my ways!!

Regards

and good luck

Gio

Hi
The key to pitching the Monty 6 is four very good pegs.

1-Peg the four corners of the tent making sure the adjustable straps are slack.

2-Open the front door to let some air into the tent when you lift it up.

3-Slide one roof bar through the front pole sleeve, then attach the leg on the none adjustable strap side then the leg on the adjustable strap side making sure the roof pole sleeve has not been caught. At this piont the front of the tent will be standing, you can now shut the front door and if its windy you can guy out the front pole.

4-Repeat number 3 working towards the rear of the tent.

5-Re peg the corners if needed and peg and guy the rest of the tent, then finish the side porch.

Easy....30 mins max.
Regards
Gary Cross

Thanks Gary that sounds fantastic, I look forward to giving it a go if it ever stops raining this year.

I've been pitching my M6 for 2 years using brute force and ignorance and only just realised there are adjustable straps on one side for the legs 17
