Hi Charliesmum,
I was advised that the Vango large canopy would happily fit the ICARUS 500. I purchased this last Autumn but because of high winds forecast I decided not to take it with us this summer so I haven't had chance to use it yet. I have seen quite a few photos of the Icarus with this large canopy attached and if you look on the tent review section for this tent I think you will see some for yourself. I only paid about £38 for mine to match the laurel and Sage colour of my tent.
Hope this helps
We have an Icarus 500 and the Vango extension premium (£65) fits. This is like a canopy but with a zip up door so brilliant for rainy weather.
hi i have the icarus 500 and would like the premium extension as i want the security of the door, can you please confirm it fits as all retailers on line do not list icarus 500 as compatable and is it self explanatory for erection or is it a 'make it fit' senario
thank you so much for any advise

We have the Icarus 500 canopy. It clips on and is a very useful outdoor space. We didn't get the extension as we didn't require anymore indoor covered space for just the two of us - we wanted shelter and also a way of getting in and out of the tent without getting wet in.
I use a piece of eco mat in the middle. I got it in Lidl and it periodically comes up. I cut it so I have a couple of 'rugs' which essentially just stops the ground getting churned up if it is soft to start with. Its got lots of little holes all over and you can buy big lengths of it for caravan awnings, although it is quite expensive to get it that way.
The dirt trapper mat is great too, I just lift it from inside my front door as I'm locking up the house. I have forgotten to bring the mats and have used the rubber mats from my car as a 'make do' alternative.
lol I love the fact that you take your door mat, you are an inspiration, gonna print this pic as my 'perfect' setup pic, now then...where can i buy that cereal canister
lol....Ikea! It keeps the bugs out of my sugar puffs.
The tool box has my cutlery in it, and in the underneath part my cooking utensils. My sister thought it was funny, but she told me she's bought a tool box too for her cutlery!

Hi hun thanks for all the advise so far, we had a great weekend away with the premium extension, coped well with the wind and rain, do you have any pics of the tent and extension from the outside as I could not figure out how to pitch it against the tent properly which resulted in the tent sagging / being pulled down where the extension overlapped it and the rain pooled here. I was sure it could be resolved by placing the extension properly prior to pegging etc but i couldnt figure it out.
Firstly make sure the main tent door is closed up as leaving it open distorts the front hoop all the more.
I found that as long as the nearest hoop of the extension was as closely butted up against the front of the tent as possible, bearing in mind that the extension (at floor level) is marginally smaller than the actual tent, the elastic at the top would 'grip' the top of the main tent behind it's front hoop. So you need to centre the extension at floor level, and at a guess there's about 5cm in it on each side.
I guy out roughly at 45 degree angles, and yes if pegged down very tightly it does cause the front hoop of the tent to dip. I would suggest just loosening the guys a bit, but not so much to make the elastic pop off.
I'd like to guy out closer to the main tent, but that would obstruct the side door so I tend to have slightly different angles on each side.
I haven't tried this yet but I may tie one or both of the guys to the middle hoop of the main tent. I think that would take the pressure off that front hoop.
