I have recently used my new Vango Tigris 800 tent for the first time. I found it had a number of faults. Firstly the velcro retaining straps for the tention band system had been stitched in the wrong place and secondly i found a number of small leaks along the seams.

Has anyone else had the same problems???

What action did you take??? ie return to shop / return to vango.

Bought this tent from an online store so its not going to be easy to just take it back.

First use of our Vango Tigris 600, one of the main straps used to peg the tent down came off having not been stiched properly, also the join in the groundsheet had not been stuck down fully.

We bought it from Winfields in Hull. We called them who advised us to bring it and they looked at the tent and immediately said they would replace it, sadly they didn't have any 600's in stock and don't know if they would get any in this season. They advised us we could have a refund or they would try to repair it, which we were happy for. They had it repaired within a day and gave us a 10% refund on the tent and offered us the reassurance we could return if there was any further problems.

Our advice would be to contact your supplier, they may replace it.

Hi there,

You may want to search for my thread "vango tigris disaster". I had similar small problems and had bought from an online shop. The shop paid for collection of the tent and shipped it to Vango for inspection. Unfortunately the tent was still wet and Vango refused to inspect it. The store (outdoorworld direct in Huddersfield) very kindly swapped it for a new tent which has been perfect!

Thanks robbo. I have emailed both supplier and vango to explain the problems. Im awaiting replies from both but im looking to use the tent again in the next few weeks so i think i may have to phone them to push things along. Must admit the tent is spot on other than a few probs.

I contacted the supplier. Was told that the velcro straps are not used to secure the tension straps but to secure wiring for lighting, how thick am i??? The tension straps are taken down in still / light winds and only used in windy conditions.

As for the leaks I was told that taped seams arent always sealed fully and the best course of action is to use seam sealer to seal any leaks. Only used the tent once however im going to do as advised.

Anyone know of any good seam sealer on the market???

Lol to the tension strap thingies. I was having a real swear at my most recent new tent (Vango Oregon 400) when I first tried test pitching it because everything was tight, lumpy, distorted...then I realised I was trying to erect it with the TBS connected up inside, lol. We've all been there!

Seam sealer is much of a muchness. Whatever your tent store has in stock really. It's quite common to have to seal the odd stitch hole, especially at toggle points etc where there is stress and the seams can gape a bit. Erect the tent and use a childs cheap paintbrush to work the sealant into the stitch holes then leave for 24 hours to dry, otherwise the sealent will stick to places you don't want it to.

Hi Chris,

Which seams are leaking? I wouldnt accept a £250 tent that leaked anywhere! Dont forget there is a lifetime warranty on Vango kit so I wouldnt be fobbed off.

I thought this too but if its just a case of a little maintainance i thought it would be an easier option. Ive also contacted vango via email to ask their advice. If i can get a new tent out of it i will. I wont hold my breath though.

We were away last week in our Tigris, and in really really bad rain, relentless all day, we had a couple of small leaks, on a couple of seams. But when dry used the seam sealent, then the next time we had rain, which was pretty much all week, no more leaks. Took me 5 mins to go over the seams. But it depends how leaky it is!

But we love our Tigris, everything we wanted in a tent, lovely big bedroom for us and big room each for the kids, still with plenty of living space.

We also had a small leak in our Tigris, but I can't be certain it wasn't condensation so am going to hold off before using the seam sealer. I won't be returning it - I'm one of those people who really has to be worked up by something to go that far and a five minute job with a paintbrush doesn't fall into that category.

I must admit that when I read your post the first time I couldn't for the life of me work out what velcro you were talking about as I've never used any with our tension straps. I thought I was doing something wrong!
