welll...and a man but with out him the title was catchier!

Basically....I could do with a bit of advice!  Ive been looking for a new tent for a while as I currently have a five person dome tent that has standing room but is awful in windy conditions and it is literally impossible to get a good nights sleep - i spend most of the night panicing it is going to blow away/collapse on me.  I usually go camping in autumn/spring or at the coast so dont have the best of luck with the weather so am looking to buy something of a smaller scale that will stand up a bit better to the conditions.

The Vango Beta 450 has caught my eye but trouble is I cant find one anywhere except the internet and Im not too keen on buying online.

The only reason Im after a four person tent is because we take two single air beds and our border collie sized dog with us and Im worried we wont all fit in a three person.  I keep seeing Vango Beta 350's everywhere but I dont know if I would be making a mistake buying one and the finding out when its too late that its not quite roomy enough for a 2/3 night break for the three of us.

Does anyone know if this tent would be of reasonable size for 2 and a dog?  Or could possibly recommend something that would be big enough but able to withstand windy weather ? (obviously I wouldnt expect it to be fine in gale force conditions but just something that can withstand your general coastal/mountain valley breeze without collapsing on top of me at 2am!!!)

Hi,

I have a Beta 350 for myself and 10 yr old daughter and we manage fine but I  think 2 adults and a dog would find it a bit cosy! There is not a huge amount of living space.

As far as standing up to the wind goes, we camped at a festival in Derbyshire this may which was hit by a tornado! We had a pole split at the bottom but the tent stood firm. Many people lost their tents to damage or literally taking off into the air. It was scary stuff but I would recommend this tent for windy conditions!

I think that the Vango Beta 450 was reviewed in the last Camping Magazine. Seems like a good all round tent.

Hi, what sort of budget are you working to? A Vango Equinox 450 seems a reassuringly strong tent but the extra quality comes at a price, seems to retail for about £250 ish.

PS If you can track one down, the Wild Country Venturi 4 is a bigger-than-usual, strong, technical tent. The Venturi 3 has an over sized porch too.

Thanks everyone for your help.

I ended up rush buying something last minute for the break I just went on and decided Im going to use that (a hi gear electron 3 person) as my 'spur of the moment break' tent as it takes all of ten mins to put up.  As more long term I think I am going to end up buying a Vango Beta 450 as my larger 'more than one night' tent as they do seem from what people have sed to stand up to wind really really well.  And will probably fit the three of us more comfortably for longer breaks!  (and not massivly expensive either I dont think!)

Thanks again :o)
