Can I ask for advice re pegging out an Athena?

The tent has rubber bands and black plastic D-rings around the lower edge. I'm guessing that I should peg through the rubber rings (which stretch a bit) but what are the black rings for?

Also, how close to the poles should I be pegging the tent? I'm new to frame tents and our tunnel tent has a ring and pin system.

Hi We have the Athena and I have often wondered what the little "D" rings were for. I look forward to hearing too!  As far as how far away to fix them is concerned, I always peg from the outside and simply slip the peg through the rubber and pull straight out until the rubber is under tension but not straining. All the rubbers at the same tension along the sides. As for the front simply peg directly into the ground............................................Unless someone knows better/different?

The D rings are there to fit replacement rubbers to once the old ones perish.
